The boundary between the two countries is peaceful, Singh said addressing scholars at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the premier think-tank of China. "We are both determined to keep it so while our Special Representatives seek a settlement of the boundary question."
In April 2005 during the visit of Premier Wen Jiabao to India, the two governments agreed on a set of Political Parameters and Guiding Principles for the settlement of the boundary question, Singh recalled.
"We are confident that those Principles will guide us to a mutually satisfactory solution of this issue. We have also agreed to set up a mechanism to look at trans-boundary rivers, and will make a success of its work."
He said India was satisfied with the results so far and were convinced that the potential for India-China relations was great and would be realised.
The Special Representatives of the two countries, National Security Advisor M K Narayanan and Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo, are expected to take forward the dialogue process during informal negotiations in Beijing.
Singh and his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao had on Monday discussed the boundary question and reaffirmed that they are firmly committed to resolving outstanding differences through peaceful negotiations while ensuring that such differences are not allowed to affect the positive development of bilateral relations.
They said the two countries would seek a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution to the boundary question and "build a boundary of peace and friendship" on the basis of the Agreement on Political Parameters and Guiding Principles for the Settlement of the India-China Boundary Question concluded in April 2005.
India says China is illegally occupying 43,180 sq km of Jammu and Kashmir including 5,180 sq km illegally ceded to Beijing by Islamabad under the Sino-Pakistan boundary agreement in 1963. On the other hand, China accuses India of possessing some 90,000 sq km of Chinese territory, mostly in Arunachal Pradesh.

Settlement of India China boundary question is a sin of Commmunist China committed as an act of brutal occupation of Tibet. India should NOT be a party to this heinous sin of occupation.
Britain as colonial power stitched a British India out of many princely states and then drew an artificial Mamahon Line which was never recognised by China to divide and rule.Similar with stitching a Pakistan suit to divide and rule. Please negotiate as Asisan and not be divided again by colonialist schemes.
A neighbour forcibily enters your house, and occupies one of your room ; What do you do ? Just throw him out , using force ! And our shameless and spineless P.M , is talking about settling the dispute by negotiations.
Pkl. Afternoon 5pm,Tuesday,15th Jan. 2008I think the cautious economist who is not too effusive of national commitment to mother Indiaand otherwise incapable of making a difference in the drearly vales, ridges and snow lines of Himalayas across thousands of India -China or India tibetan watershed perhaps would be reassured of future reconciliations than any tangible advantage either in Aksai Chin , Sikkim or NEFA repeated incursions! and exaggerated Chinese claims to even populated land mass south of Colonial Mc Mahon line that Chinese refuse to give any credence, all these days since Rajiv ,Narsingha Rao or Bajpayis negotiated this hardy thorn in India;s peace and Econpmic cooperation Mantram of Manmohanomics. In many ways our verbal catharsis is only an eloquent testimony of India's ignominious defeat at the hands of Mao's garrisons in Nehru's betrayal of indian security, under his perfervid ideology of Panch -sheel. We need to have a forward No-Nonsense ground strategy when we are faced with such cussed followers San Tzu,D. Goel
what a paethetic PM, WHAT BORDER ROW? No Discussions please on Indian Territory, No re-drawing of borders! Please Make this clear to the Chinese!
Our PM’s visit to China is to continue on the platform built by the Congress President and we can expect some ready-made answers after his return. They will always agree to continue discussion at the highest level, but nothing concrete would happen. If something does happen it will be only to the benefit of the Chinese government and not for India. The political fraternity here and the Business community have different views. The trade deficit is on the increase, but we will agree for more sops for the Chinese business entity and leave in lurch our own industry. Astonishingly, our communist friends have not raised a voice against this discrepancy in trade deficit, but do so if our government tries to make contact with USA, though both china and America should be kept in the same scale, as both cannot be relied upon during critical circumstances.
India can not be secured with this guy (who always lie).
