Kolkata, May 28 Acting on a tip-off, a special team of district police arrested a Maoist activist from the forests of Banspahari village in West Midnapore district this morning.

Raj Kanojia, IG (Law and Order), said,” Forensing Sardar was a member of the ‘Belphari Squad’ of the CPI(Maoist).”

The group has been in our criminal records for organising attacks on the police in the last few years, said Kanojia. Sardar was wanted for his involvement in various offences in West Midnapore and Purulia districts. “The West Midnapore police had also circulated his photograph in the villages. He is being interrogated,” said Kanojia.

Last night, the district police raided Banspahari, a village bordering West Midnapore and Purulia, and nabbed an aide of Forensing, Manassing Sardar, who later informed the police about the whereabouts of the Maoist leader.

The police said that he was also involved in the killing of Sunil Mahato, a Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MP, who was killed on March 5, 2007 in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand.
