Naxals

Kolkata With the Naxals facing the heat of an imminent concerted operation by security forces, a top Maoist leader on Thursday said the ultras were ready for talks "if there was ceasefire on both sides" and withdrawal of the para-military forces deployed in the naxal-hit states.

"The process of talks with the central government can only begin if there is ceasefire on both sides," top Maoist leader Kishenji on Thursday said.

Asked to comment on the Centre's condition that the Maoists should abjure violence and only then it was ready to sit across the table, Kishenji said over phone, "The Centre is killing innocent people in the name of tackling the Maoists and they are asking us to abjure violence, which is ridiculous."

He said the Centre would have to withdraw para-military forces from the seven states -- Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal – and treat the problems of tribals in a sympathetic way.

"Also both the Centre and the state governments will have to apologise to the tribals for the prolonged atrocity meted out to them and the consequent suffering from the time of Independence," Kishenji said.

Asked what should be the nature of the apology, Kishenji said without elaborating, "They will have to come to the tribals and apologise."

Maoist Trinamool Congress Condition by Chanchal Dutta on 06 Nov 2009

Who is Kisenji? Maoist is a corrupt outfit & have links with few so called intellectuals and Trinamool Congress party in West Bengal. Killing innocent poor people and ordinary police personnel is not a crime? Every body has a right to work for the Adivasis and against Central Para MIlitary forces atrocities. But Maoist are not the sole agent to dictate terms.Goverment must come out openly and expose who are behind these Maoist. Innocent people must not be victimised unnecessarily to aggravate more problems.

Can dacoits, thugs, corruts and tounge twisters et tal can ever be trusted! But in our country where the entire society has been corrupted and where dishonesty been the order of the day Sonia's Govt will only appoint another corrupt and amenable official like Navin Khanna CEC to the post of CIC as the Govt would like to continue to hide more skeletons in its vaults like Statebank of India where Indira Gandhi stalked her corrupt and tainted money with people like Nagarwala and then put such person to his final resting place.Jai ho Jai ho .....

Naxal's Talks by Mohinder Chahal on 06 Nov 2009

I think this is very positive approach for India's development. I appreciate Dr. Manmohan Singh's approach towards Naxal problem as he said Govt. should carry tribals and other poor sections of the country along as for as the fruits of development are concerned. Naxals or any other organization is human first than violent. I agree India should not tolerate any kind of violence but to stop that must study the root cause of that problem. We should not cut the branches of the tree but remove its roots so that it does not grow again. India is close to achieve this goal if the hands of the PM are strengthened by all political parties. Fighting with its citizens on military lines can culminate into a civil war which is not at all good for a country as is happening in our neighboring countries.

Tribals must raise their through standard democratic process by Shri on 06 Nov 2009

Nation and its people can not tolerate anybody to take guns in their hand to raise their voice of concern. It is thwarting economic development of the our country which some of our neighboure do not wish..We must act wisely and smartly to tackle these types of issues

no ceasefire with terrorists by arnab on 06 Nov 2009

No ceasefire , government should send in the army and crush them with brutal force

Chinese Strategy by Attakhalil on 05 Nov 2009

The maoists are the creation of chinese government. There is no doubt about it. This has already been appread in chinese websites earliet. The Government of India is already aware of the chinese plot but due to diplomatic reasons the Government is just ignoring the fact in front of the media. The Government just cannot act as per the advice of the warmongers. Let us hope that the Government deal the problem smartly and I am sure that every terrorist will be getting paid their due in a very smart way. After all, china is the one going to collapse because there is democracy. India is democratic and a secular nation respected by all over the world. Forget about the so called nationalists who is there only to instigate violence. Death to them.....Jai India....but without the destroyers....

I do not see NAXALS as bad as terrorist by hindblogger on 05 Nov 2009

I do not see NAXALS as state is projecting them. I think they are fighting for basic rights which our system do not provide because we are living in a democracy which is a delicacy for many living in jungles. I think NAXALS should not be read and felt like terrorist.

No Talk with Maoists by Bansi B.Basak on 05 Nov 2009

It is reported that Maoist leaders are having close relation with their Nepalese counter parts, this amounts to sedition. They should should be nabbed. The maoists should be pushed. No talk, never with them.

Today Nepal tomorrow India? by Raju Charles on 05 Nov 2009

India can learn a lesson from the Napalese govts downfall to th Chinese dragon. The Nepal Dalits were forced to join with the Maoist to get rid of evil caste and unspeakble poverty bestowed upon the poor and helpless people. The USA instead of taking a stand for liberty and justice gave night vision Gogoles to the king regime which has no eyes to seee the suffering of its own people .What is the point of having a night vision gogoles to a king who has no eye sight? It was the biggest himalayan blunder by the largest democracy to align with the evil regime and loose a close ally like Nepal to China, now look what has happend? Nepal has become a Chinese puppet and china will stretch its muscles and spread its evil empire. Indians must unite and fight to uphold the secular fabric of India and abolish caste and religious discrimination for for the sake our our mothrer land. Truly but sadly, Raju Charles Takoma Park

Do not appease the Moists by Giri Girishankar on 05 Nov 2009

The Moist leader Kishenji has the arrogance to demand cease-fire from the government forces before he would come to the negotiating table. Hope the Centre and the States will not fall for this "bait". They should flatly refuse any such concession and press ahead with their concerted action against the Moists till they lay down their arms and behave like civilized people. The Central government should not repeat its traditional mistake of appeasement. This is the time to be firm and show determination. Having said that, it is only fair and proper that the Center and State governments should talk to the tribals in order to understand their problems and demands and genuinely solve them. The Moists should not be treated as the primary representatives of the tribals. They do not deserve that privilege.

Maoist condition for ceasefire. by S.N.Balakrishnan on 05 Nov 2009

It is high time the socalled humanright activists stop supporting the maoists and permit the government of the land to establish the rule of law in the maoist control areas. If they fail to do it they should be arrested and sent to jail for being accomplices of the terror perpetrated by the maoists on law abiding citizens of this country. It is the maoists and these activists who mislead the tribals from joining the mainstream and be a part of this developing nation and want them to be subservient to the so-called tribal way of life which prevents the majority of tribals any democracy or improvement in their life style. Of course the government will have to ensure that the right to the tribal lands are guaranteed and not be permitted to be usurped by the politicians businessmen nexus. Will the government rise to the occasion?

No ceasefire by Rajbeer on 05 Nov 2009

Who are they to make an offer ? Use all your might to crush them and crush them for ever.Be ruthless.India must make a horrible example out of them. There are several sections of society that feel deprived and completely untouched by economic boom india had but they are waiting for their turn.Once they are eliminated than bring a very comprehensive package for tribal people. But dont accept any offer of talks.History stands testimony to the fact that such groups have used ceasefire to regroup and re arm themselves and throw govt's offensive plan out of gear.

Maoists ready for talks provided there is a 'ceasefire' by Abdulmajeed Khan Advocate on 05 Nov 2009

Respected Sir, This is good opportunity for the government of India to initiate negotiations with the Maoists immediately and defuse the tension in these considerable states. Negotiation will prove fruitful, if both sides will think on table ' We all are Indians " and should save this motherland from disturbances and forced defficulties. Praying allah for best fruitful results in this regard.I am confident the media will publish more in this regard to make possible for both sides to reach some settlement within the interests of Union of India.

Mr. by Jai Singh on 05 Nov 2009

This is the oldest communist guerilla trick in the world to buy time, to regroup and rearm. It would be a very foolish government to fall into this trap. But then who can tell? This government loves falling into such traps. It has done so many times in Kashmir and Assam and every time to the great frustration of soldiers and police and hundreds of lost lives.

Maoists willing to talk by R.K.Datta on 05 Nov 2009

Home Minister must not even entertain any such feelers.Send some more Para Military forces and attack. These guys have been parasites on tribals. Who are they to ask Govt.? If they surrender and big one s are proseci=uted in fast track court and punished - then talk with small ones. These are a shame on both Naxal movement and Mao. R.K.Datta

Mao'sts Conditions by Kumar on 05 Nov 2009

Gevernment should not concede an inch. This is a democracy of one billion. Not a single terrorists problems are solved by dialogue in India(Punjab,Ltte,Assam,Naga,Manipur, Kashmir....).Crush Mao'sts by force, it is possible AP in 70/80's and Kerala in 70's are examples. Unlike boarder states Logisticaly it is not easy for them to operate for long.Same time, it is time for governmrnt to revamp civil admin system all over India for reaching out to weaker sections of Indian's. Time to re organise sardar Patels old steel frame(Inefficient, corrupt Babudoms of civil service...IAS,IPS,IFS etc)

Maoist's conditions by Kalpathy Venkataraman on 05 Nov 2009

Mr. Kumar, If we had a Home Minister of the caliber and honesty of Sardar Patel now, there would have been no Maoists in the first place. The root causes of this problems are dishonest politicians, inept administration, corrupt police force and lack of compassion for economically oppressed.

Don't talk to Maoists. by Jai on 05 Nov 2009

There should be no talks with the Maoists. Anybody who does not believe in the democratic process cannot claim to represent anybody.

what a joke by Arun on 05 Nov 2009

Ceasefire by 2 sides ? What a joke. The commies think of themselves a a "side" against the govt of India. What a bunch of sickos. Kick them all the way to China. They get money from China and Pakistan to slow India down based on their imaginary and non existent problems. Commies are the real reason why all the Dalits are still Dalits. It is a stable vote bank and they intend to keep the dalit people poor just for this reason. Look at what uber rich Mayavati, a dalit and a self proclaimed protector of Dalit doing. Making statues of herself across her state with some 4000 crores.

Ceasefire by Harsh on 05 Nov 2009

One must be careful, ceasefire should not mean the time to become more lethal. The generation of instability in our country similar to Nepal is the sole purpose of this movement but unfortunately some think it is in the interest of tribal. Violence can not be in the interest of any body and tribal has the experience of it from the centuries. They get some improvement in day to day life only in democracy and after independence. Lot has to be done not in tribal area but in metros also but no violence can do it, prosperity required peace.

Maoists ready for talks with Government by Parminder Singh on 05 Nov 2009

As I said earlier, peaceful solutions should always be preferred over violence. I would suggest that (1) offer of talks should be accepted in the first instance, (2) some eminent people, chosen among the names suggested by Maoists and Govt. should be constituted, (2) safe passage be assured to some Maoist leaders to meet the team in an area acceptable to both sides, (3) list of denands should be submitted by aggrieved parties(Maoists, Tribals, etc ) within few weeks for consideration by the Committee / Govt. (State and or Central Government ),(4)no violence should take place from both sides and ceasefire enforced, say, for a month, to be extended, if necessary, (5) in the meantime extortions by Maoists should stop immediately. If the Maoists do not respond or behave responsibly, then Security forces should begin their actions, even using helicoptors/ airforce to wipe out the Maoists completely from affected States, like Sri Lanka and Pakistan against the LTTE and Talibans/Al Queda.

Parminder Singh by Kartik Pandya on 05 Nov 2009

My suggestion: Only one- Parminder Singh should be the chief negociator.

Do not talk by Raamesh on 05 Nov 2009

This was tried before Sir, by many state governments, again and again. Everytime, the Maoists used it to regroup and re-arm. Let us not fall into this trap again.

who are they to challenge the govt of the nation? by v.seshadri on 05 Nov 2009

are they a separate national entity under the leadership of yechury? or prachanda of nepal? such challenges basically imply treason against the nation.

Congress must apologise for insults to tribals and attempts to destroy their culture by evangelism. by Vanvasi on 05 Nov 2009

He is asking for apology from Congress. Very apprpriate, given the fact that where ever Christians have gone in this world they have destroyed the tribes and converted tribals. If Sonia goes and seeks forgiveness from heart rather than with Vatican induced tricks in her heart, the tribals must consider her apology and aks her and Congress to renounce Christianity.

Thugs ... by Manoj on 05 Nov 2009

There are many leaders who work for tribals and yet not taken to arms. Why are these Maoists been given such importance? They are all failed politicians who wants power through violence. They have nothing to do with the poor tribals. They just need to be crushed, not talked with.

Mr. by Dilip on 05 Nov 2009

With easy to kill ill equipped law enforcing police force being replaced by well coordinated, motivated and highly trained special forces REDs are seeing RED. They see their reign of extortion, levy collection, rule by fear crumbling in coming months & years. This kind conditional cease fire is offered by terrorist organisation only to buy time & regroup. Mr. chidambaram, just go ahead & crush them. You are the best home minister in our living memory.
