New Delhi Forcible eviction of seven Rajya Sabha members opposing the Women's Reservation Bill triggered massive uproar in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, forcing adjournment of the house for the day.

When the House reassembled at noon after the first adjournment, members of SP, RJD, JD(U) and LJP rushed menacingly to the well shouting 'marshal bulao' (call the marshals), prompting Speaker Meira Kumar to immediately adjourn the House till 1400 hours.

But the Speaker could not even order laying of papers due to vociferous protests led by SP and RJD chiefs Mulayam Singh Yadav and Lalu Prasad, who too were in the well.

Noticing the aggressive nature of the protests, Kumar adjourned the House almost immediately after she came in.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Leader of the House Pranab Mukherjee and Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj were present in the House.

After the adjournment, Yadav and Prasad were seen urging Swaraj to take up the issue of using marshals to remove the suspended members from Rajya Sabha yesterday.

BJP leader Yashwant Sinha was heard asking the RJD and SP chiefs to go to the President and withdrawing support from the UPA.

Earlier when the House assembled for the day, members of these parties criticised the government's "autocratic move" to pass the Bill in the Rajya Sabha.

At that time, the Speaker insisted on going ahead with the Question Hour and took up the first question.

However, the members, including Yadav, Prasad and JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav, trooped into the well and shouted slogansprotesting the manner in which the bill was adopted in the Upper House.

Amid the din, the Speaker adjourned the House till noon.

As tempers ran high in the House, Lok Sabha officials removed pen stands, notebooks and files kept on the Reporters' table and those on the table of the Secretary General apparently keeping in mind the unruly scenes witnessed in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

Woman Resrvation by s s iyer on 10 Mar 2010

Why women need reservation? If they are highly capable let them contest along with men impressing the electorate with their plans and proposals which they will implement if get elected. The reservation mantra has made India inefficient, inactive, backward and completely crippled.

All MPs who voted in favour of the bill needs to be thanked. Through out all MPs who are creating trouble of universe.

Congress Call by Giriwar on 10 Mar 2010

I an no fan of Congress party, yet at a point of making of history of parliamentary democracy in India, I feel to congratulate Mrs. Sonia Gandhi for pushing on with the Women's Reservation Bill, in the face of barrage of protest(s) from old time allies & not so much ally. Since it was a purely a political decision and therefore It was her turn to take a call, and not Dr.Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister, as Congress may have to face a rough weather for the rest of the Budget Session and who knows may be more. But Sonia Gandhi has truly upheld the tradition of her late Grand father in law. The gamut of political weighing & tight rope walking would definitely be deciphered here after. BJP, as well, has acted as a mature responsible opposition after a long lapse of time, while smartly cornering the congress politically, a move that would be unequivocally appreciated even by congress & others.

congress call by karan on 10 Mar 2010

I have seen few people attributing the passage of this bill to sonia ghandi, which is far from the actual scene. But for the support of BJP&LEFT this bill will not have seen the light of the day. That too but for the insistance of BJP&LEFT for a sensibile debate on this subject, which only paved way for this passing of the bill, because many a fence sitters in Congress and BJP aginst this bill werr afraid of being exposed during such a debate, and this forced such a overwhelming majority support. In the name of democracy of this country we must stop eulogize any individual but for once the entire parliment deserves praise for their united action

Can we citizens also allowed to disrupt normal life by rajkumar on 10 Mar 2010

Our MPS should explian to us , can we common people who gave them the power to act and behave honestly also take the power to our hands and do the following: 1. Stop all traffic on all roads as a protest. 2. Stop any ministers , chief ministers to move from any office for any reason just to make our point. 3. Will our Courts and Police be a mute spectator saying it is people and we have to respect them. Please explain from where did you all dervied your power!!!!

Does Congress believe in democracy any more? by Ash on 10 Mar 2010

Eviction from Rajya Sabha of opposition members for protesting, arresting opposition from protesting or waving flags ... By not allowing protests, is Congress bringing back emergency? On the other hand, Congress recently did violent protests in UP, and arson in Karnataka protests. It is time people see, and clearly understand Congress's double standards!

It is a fool's paradise by Chandra on 10 Mar 2010

It is grossly wrong to assume that by granting 33% reservation, the women MPs become more in number so more vocal about their rights. In current scenario, How many women MPs do raise their concern or actively participate in the debate or discussion...you can count..not more than 4/5. Similarly, how many young MPs do take participation in parliament proceeding...next to never..just symbolic presence in parliament and active participation in News Channels studios. Look at panchayat raj where women do play a very important role (mostly not very well educated) but the moment you become educated you simply love to talk nothing beyond that. Same case happens and will continue happen when it comes to young MPs or women MPs. It is not the size but sharpness ..that matters...not superficial talk before the camera but incisive views in the parliament. So we, so called modern English medium educated without any substance live in fool's paradise and do drawing room politics.

Forced eviction by H.singh on 10 Mar 2010

The behavior of MPs is condemonable in the harshest word but at the same time forced eviction is not also desirable.Govt. should have found the respectable way out for this tangle. after all they are the representatives of people and were expressing their views.

Forced eviction by EssEss on 10 Mar 2010

Beg to differ. If one does not behave then one needs to pay the price. What the MPs did by rushing to the podium and physically assaulting the Speaker is not becoming of a Parliamentarian. One cannot behave the way one wishes. There are effective methods (other than physical abuse) that the concerned MPs could have used to make their point of opposition. No point in trying to engage in goondagiri. But do these goons know any other way in the first place!

Reservation by rammohan on 10 Mar 2010

33% reservation is a correct bill. Only concren I will have is this shall not be for ever. In fact no resrvation is for ever. all affirmative action shall be time bound otherwise it will impede progress. The more and more the brighter people are sidelined for the sake of affirmative action, they will migrate to better places they can benifit (because they are smarter to find it). Naturally our governments, burocracy will be filled with reserved people protecting thier own benifits. Antyoday is the right approach and not giving reservation for Meira Kumars and the like who were previleged for generations due to the reservations

Thousands of Crores at Stake by Narayani on 10 Mar 2010

Many of them literally rule the States. They control local TVs, Newspapers, etc. Their families benefit first due to reservation. Does anyone believe that it will ever percolate to the so called minorities and poor people. They even stage behind the scene operations and fund them to discredit so called Swamijis to take their lands. There is no hope for this country. Let us try women folks without prejudice. Alternatively, put all Indian families in power in rotation. One cannot avoid corruption and let everyone join the fun. Best wishes to this Great Land.

We have to congratulate the MPs who voted for the bill. Mr.Mulayam and Lallu prasad yadav are trying to put off the bill but they cant. Because the blessings of the total Public with the bill which is giving power to Indian women. It is a historical day that we can change our selves as per the requirement of the time

Women's Bill - India by T.N.U. Nair on 10 Mar 2010

During Rajiv Ghandhi's time, the voting age was reduced to 18 which according to me boomeranged the Congress, looking at subsequent electoral verdict until 2009. But women's bill is different. It is the greatest milestone in Indian History. I suggest that all the political parties including Raj Thackery's MNS must reserve 33% of party positions to women. Women are great administrators and much more disciplined than men. For example, go to Mount Abu and see how the Sister's in Brahma Kumaris manage such a vast set-up. It looks like a Singapore within India. The Italian turned Indian Lady, Sonia, deserves the undiluted admiration of entire Indian women. In Medical Field, women Nurses render better and touching services than men. The Lok Sabha must pass with least opposition as a great tribute to Indian Women. If the BP of MPs opposing it increases, the women Nursers will treat them well.

Parliament has no place for Hooligans by arun kumar on 10 Mar 2010

Like that of Mulayam, Laloo, Sharad and Ramvilas. Let this be told to them in clear words so that it sets precedent for others. Democracy needs voice and they do not have it.

M by kcgovil on 10 Mar 2010

lalu mulaum and sharad and others like them donot know the meaning of democracy. They have a right to say what they think about an issue, but certainly they donot have a right to block others from speaking. Such persons are adisgrace to the nation. they should be warned and thrown out of the parliament ifr they continue to obstruct
