kolkata, April 23 The IPL match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Mumbai Indians, to be held at Eden Gardens on April 29, faces postponement. All recommendations by a committee, set up by the government on Wednesday to inquire into the power failure at Eden Gardens during the IPL match on Sunday, are to be met before the match is played as scheduled.

“We want that the match is held on April 29. But it has to be uninterrupted, and for that all the recommendations of the committee will have to be implemented. If this is not possible, the match could be deferred,” said Subhas Chakraborty, minister for sports and transport.

Sports Secretary A K Patnaik is heading the committee, which includes Special Secretary, Sports M L Saha, Additional Commissioner of Police (II), Kolkata Subrata Narayan Sarker, and an electrical engineer and civil engineer each of the PWD.

The committee has already inspected Eden Gardens. “If needed, the committee chairman can invite anybody he wants,” Chakraborty said.

The five-member committee will inquire into the lack of water in toilets and the non-functioning of the electronic scoreboard, apart from the power cut, and will submit its report on Thursday. Chakraborty said he would send the report directly to the chief minister, since “the image of the entire state” was involved.

The minister said the Kolkata Police has started a similar investigation into the matter. “If it is found that somebody has done this intentionally, they will definitely be punished,” Chakraborty said.

The Kolkata Knight Riders, led by Sourav Ganguly, are owned by actor Shah Rukh Khan; and the Mumbai Indians, led by Sachin Tendulkar, are owned by industrialist Mukesh Ambani. Both Khan and Ambani are expected to be present during the April 29 match.
