Pappu, a resident of House number 2219 in Mauli complex, was a painter. He is survived by his wife and three children, who were not in town when he was killed.
According to the police, Pappu and his friend Satpal consumed liquor at Satpal’s house, while his family had gone to their native village. When the duo came out of Satpal’s house, they were allegedly assaulted by a group of youth following a brawl outside house number 2594 in Mauli complex.
The assailants were reportedly armed with iron rods and sharp-edged weapons. The brawl took a violent turn when the accused attacked Pappu with bricks and rods. Pappu received serious head injuries following the attack. Satpal managed to escape from the assailants and sustained only minor injuries.
While the exact motive of the assault was still unclear, the police have ruled out the possibility of an old enmity between the duo and the group of assailants. “Perhaps, it is a case of brawl that grew violent,” said UT SSP SS Srivastava.
Pappu was immediately rushed to the GMSH-16 from where he was referred to PGI. While the police had registered a case of attempt to murder under Section 307 of the IPC in the night, a case of murder under Section 302 was registered in the morning when Pappu died due to the injuries he sustained during the fight, said Mani Majra police station SHO Hari Kumar.
