Lucknow Opposition in Uttar Pradesh criticised Chief Minister Mayawati as the State Government is reportedly sponsoring more than Rs 200 crore on a rally to commemorate sliver jubilee celebrations of the Bahujan Samaj Party.

The rally, which is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, expects a turn out of more that two million people.

Chief Minister Mayawati said the rally was being organised on the occasion of the birth anniversary of party founder Kanshi Ram and was aimed at reaching out to the people to apprise them of the government’s programmes and policies.

Criticising the Uttar Pradesh Government, Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh said, Mayawati has money to spend on a rally but not on those who were injured in Pratapgarh stampede.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Government said that it has no money to spend to help the victims of the Pratapgarh stampede.

POLITICIANS MUST BE COST CONSCIOUS AND NOT SELFISH by B S GANESH BANGALORE on 16 Mar 2010

Spending Rs 200 million on rally shows politicians are not conscious of the problems of poor people and country and shows only selfishness to get votes and enjoy power. It is high time people, officers and even police protest. Protesting is not against the country but in patriotic spirit. India badly requires politicians who are cost conscious. B S GANESH BANGALORE

Mayawati a disastrous politician for Indian democracy by Anubhav Bhargava on 15 Mar 2010

Thanks God Mayawati was not elected PM of India and her party did not got enough votes. Just imagine if she would have become PM of India what havoc she could have played with the Indian economy and Indian treasury.

Democracy in India by vsri on 14 Mar 2010

It is unfortunate that even after sixty years of independence we are living and voting on the basis of caste .Annihilation of caste propounded by Dr Ambedker is not there in politics and illiteracy and backwardness are the ingredients of Indian polity. Our politicians are ruling class and not the true representatives of people ,it seems .

for hindus by kumarpushp on 14 Mar 2010

I think ,you hindus are foolish who thinks that Mayawati is building monuments for dalit icons are for dalits .I believe it will give dalits pride and they will fight for seprate electorate and then seprate settlement away from hindus ,same way Mr Jinna had done for muslims.

MAYAVATHI-DALIT-OUT of touch with people.. by citizen on 14 Mar 2010

'Blind leading the blind'.Accountability in India? What is that??The corrupt politicians loot the treasury and politicians like mayawathi -total disgrace not only to the people of the state, but to the nation as a whole. It is time for the young and educated generation to wake up and kick these self centered corrupt scums out of the power for the survival of the nation India and the 'freedom' we claim to have after 5 decades..You cant teach new tricks to the old dog..Ccountry divided with racial, regional bassis by the fanatics and their followers..They rob the bank for selfish reasons.Dalits?? Give us a break..We still treat the poor based on s.c.,s.t. and reservations...Freedom and better education can bring a change by the younger generation. HOPE..

If BSP is bad then Congress is the Worst by Shaji on 14 Mar 2010

Though Mayawati is called herself Dalit and downrodden but all her actions and style are like Billionaires and she spend lavishly for wasteful purposes whereas she do not care the common public of UP as the State is running with various acute problems. Ofcourse people gave their mandate to her by rejecting Congress. UP's general public are the same who have been voted for Congress for decades are now rejected the same Congress and voted for Mayawati b.cos they have realized the Bad is much more better than the Worst.

Helpless Indians by Bharat on 14 Mar 2010

Mayawati/BSP is enjoying the treasury of a state while MMS/Congress Party is enjoying the treasury of the whole nation - who will act against whom in India? While the nation is ruled by wolves what the sheep can do?

A Dictator in the making by Jose Kallidikil on 14 Mar 2010

The way UP chief minister Smt. mayawathi plans to spend 20 Crores for the 25th anniversary of the formation of BSP tells us the pathatic state of the unaccountability in Indian Politics. True, 25 years ago when Kansi Ram founded BSP, no one imagined it to wrest power in UP any time soon. Mayawati deserves credit for developing BSP into a formidable force in UP and establishing its presence in other states. Soon this party could become a force in other states too. With the Uncertinity in Indian Politics, and the emergence of Regional Parties and divisive forces anything could happen in Indian Politics. It wont be a surprise if Smt. mayawati becomes PM or deputy Pm within the next decade. Such a situation could be dangerous to the country and its democratic framework. She has demonstrated dictatorial traits repeatedly, yet people of UP chose to re-elect her. At the state level such leaders could be contained. But if they reach at the center, they could prove to be too dangerous.

Mayawati by kumarpushp on 14 Mar 2010

175 million dalits are fighting this war for self determination away from barbaric hindus.time has come for seprate electorate and seprate settlement, great dalit writer Mr Om Prakash Balmiki has said Hindu word is gali for dalits.

Supreme court should set up audit and seize all money by rajkumar on 14 Mar 2010

From where is the money coming? The answer is simple donation and tax payers money. When the country is facing food shortages and 2 million children dying ( should be the weakest Dalits and others ) it is very shameful parties trying to protect Dalits are cheating people. Supreme court should come heavily on all parties spending public money. Also supreme court should ban political parties and governments from organizing public fuctions and thereby dispruting traffic and cause huge problems for the public. They have no right. Yesterday this happened in Tamilnadu -0 organized by DMK and Congress. The main artery of Chennai was chocked for 5 hours putting common people to huge hardships. Are they elected leaders or robbers.

Pls,don't misguide by vedprakash on 14 Mar 2010

Mayawati has already announced relief to stemped victims. Why are u misguiding?

MISGUIDANCE BY MAYAWATI by NIRANJAN on 14 Mar 2010

SHE FIRST ANNOUNCED THAT THERE WAS NO MONEY FOR THE STAMPEDE VICTIMS. THEN, WHEN SHE REALIZED THAT SHE WOULD BE CRITICIZED FOR SPENDING 200 CRORES FOR THE RALLY, SHE DECIDED TO SHELL OUT SOME MONEY FOR THE STAMPEDE VICTIMS. SO, IT WAS A POLITICAL PLOY AND NOT A SYMPATHETIC GESTURE!

Wastage of Funds by Praveen on 13 Mar 2010

And shamefully have no funds for hapless victims of stampede families!

hindu priest by kumarpushp on 14 Mar 2010

I think hindu priest should have been arrested and put him for jail for life, these barbaric hindus are shedding their crocodile tears for poor dalits who died in stampede.all dalits have to come to Buddhist fold where their is no mahatma or shankracharya.

Mayawati you are fast approaching "sell by" date by Ravi on 13 Mar 2010

Mayawati you should wake up before people force you to do so. What are the Dalits & the downtrodden getting out of this sham that you are enacting on the silver jubilee of BSP. Whose money do you think are you spending. The Indian Government must do soemthing about the gross misuse of public funds that is happening with impunity in U.P.

Maya's spending spree by Varind on 13 Mar 2010

Maya is doing what people want. If Congress boasts that goverment at center is doing beacuse people has given them the mandate, therefore why single out Maya's extravaganza?

The source? by Karuna Nair on 13 Mar 2010

From where is this money coming? Let CBI instigate.

Another "upper" caste jealousy reporting on Mayawati by NYCHAMAR on 13 Mar 2010

Why doesn't the reporter and newspaper focus on the Gandhi family and the crores it spends on it's rallies. What about coverage on how it is actively saving the mass murderers of Sikhs in 1984?

C.A.G TO LOOK AFTER THE EXPENDITURE ON RALLY by RAJAT KUMAR MOHINDRU ,JALANDHAR CITY .PUNJAB on 13 Mar 2010

The present leader's in the country are reminding the past glory of the Emperore's in lavish expenditure on there status , security and in the present scenario now by the leaders on there Political Parties . The opposition in Uttar Pardesh has clearly pointed on the expenditure of the State Government on sponsoring funds for the historic rally of Bahujan Samaj Party . As the people who pay in shape of Taxes to the the Government are in dilemna that after collection of revenue the funds are to be dispersed for the development of the State , basic civic ameneties , education , Health etc . The expenditure on the rally in future can be object by comptroller Auditor General of India in public Interest in regard to the expenditure on Public rallies burdning the State exchequer .
