Amritsar, February 12 Students of the Biochemistry Department of Government Medical College here have alleged harassment by Head of the Department (HoD) Dr Mridula Mahajan and sought the intervention of the college principal.

In a letter to the principal, the students have alleged that the HoD had refused to mark the attendance of two of them, Dr Rachna Mehandiratta and Dr Meenakshi Puri, who are second-year Junior Residents (JRs), in the departmental attendance register from December 12, 2007.

They added that from December 12, they were not allowed to take undergraduate theory and practical courses and also disallowed from attending the post-graduate classes going on in the department.

The students also said two other PG students, Dr Arti Gupta and Dr Tejinder Singh, had been refused signatures on their surety bonds.

However, Dr Mridula Mahajan said she had never stopped Dr Rachna and Dr Meenakshi from marking their attendance and it was these two who were staying away from classes under the influence of certain teachers in the department. She added that the other two students were not following the decorum of the department.
