Washington US President-elect Barack Obama forewarned Americans of the tough days ahead and said that meeting the challenges being faced by United States, specially the economic crisis, is not going to be easy.

Addressing a mammoth crowd, who braving severe cold gathered for the star-studded inaugural celebration at the historic Lincoln Memorial on Sunday, Obama listed out major challenges being faced by the US.

Country's top musical stars including Bruce Springsteen, Shakira, Garth Brooks, Bono and Stevie Wonder enthralled the audience with their inspirational performances. The future First Family was seated in a secure enclosure enjoying the music.

"I won't pretend that meeting any one of these challenges will be easy. It will take more than a month or a year, and it will likely take many. Along the way, there will be setbacks and false starts and days that test our resolve as a nation," Obama said.

Addressing the cheering crowd, Obama said in the course of US history, only a handful of generations have been asked to confront challenges as serious as the ones being faced right now.

"Our nation is at war. Our economy is in crisis. Millions of Americans are losing their jobs and their homes. They're worried about how they'll afford college for their kids or pay the stack of bills on their kitchen table," he said.

"And most of all, they are anxious and uncertain about the future -- about whether this generation of Americans will be able to pass on what's best about this country to our children and their children," he said.

But despite all of this, despite the enormity of the task that lies ahead, Obama asserted: "I stand here today as hopeful as ever that the United States of America will endure, that it will prevail, that the dream of our founders will live on in our time."

Obama said he is hopeful that things would change for the better. "And yet, as I stand here today, what gives me the greatest hope of all is not the stone and marble that surrounds us, but what fills the spaces in between. It is you, Americans of every race and region and station, who came here because you believe in what this country can be and because you want to help us get there," he said.

"There is no doubt that our road will be long, that our climb will be steep, but never forget that the true character of our nation is revealed not during times of comfort and ease, but by the right we do when the moment is hard. I ask you to help me reveal that character once more, and, together, we can carry forward as one nation and one people the legacy of our forefathers that we celebrate today," he added.

A blunder is being committed by romesh.sharma on 19 Jan 2009

Obama is a great demagogue who had been giving speeches with many promises which he will never be able to filfull. He acts more like a rock-star than a shrewd politician. He fails that far-sight which a leader/commander must have.USAmerican folk is living through such artificial flickering world and they are susceptible to such guys which he knows and convinced them without much efforts.Electing him as Prez the US people are doing the greates blunder ever in history. Most of the things people hope from him will remain tantalizing at home while in foreign policy it will complicate more than the things are.He will act/prove anti-India in the long run. Moreover he will remain puppet in the hands of his advisors and other powerful guys in the party. He won't be allowed to decide and make any decision at his own.Failing authority and say he will further make this Nation weak and untrustworthy. To my mind he is a curse to the USA.Not that he is coloured(I am also one)person but because of past.

President Obama symbolises hope and cheer if his campaign speeches and the ones after his election victory are anything to go by.Americans, under his inspired leadership can tide over the financial crisis that has hit global markets.Obama's foreign policy will be closely watched and scrutinised because of tensions in the middle east and the sub-continent.Best wishes obamaji...

All the Best by View on 19 Jan 2009

When a large family is in massive debt, what will be the first thing the head of the family do? Ask every family member to work hard, cutdown on their wasteful expenditure, sweat it out. The big question is, are Americans prepared to do that? They no longer are a rich family, other families in society who have lend them, want their money back....Obama is in debts till his nose, the question is can he bail himself out?

Best Wishes by shyam kishore on 19 Jan 2009

Obama is a good orator . great inspiring speeches .but the fact is that US cannot get out of the war they are waging .infact they may get in to the war mode with Iran and venuzeula in five years time .Dollar will steadly loose to the Euro in oil market .Afganistan and pakistan are going to bleed the US coffers for sure . No arms to sell and with an ecomomny and manufacturing rendered to be ineffficiant with the emergence of Chaina and India and the contracting economies of the Europe put US exports in trouble . its evident that Obama have a very big taks in his hand but has no control on the situation .best wishes Obamaji
