Rampur (UP), January 1: In a pre-dawn attack, heavily armed militants struck at a CRPF camp in Rampur, killing eight persons, including seven security personnel and leaving five others injured.

Armed with AK-47 rifles and grenades, a group of four militants attacked the CRPF troops centre at around 2.20 am, a CRPF spokesperson said.

One of the four militants entered the camp hurling grenades and firing indiscriminately, he said, adding the rest of the ultras stayed behind and escaped after some time.

Security personnel and police patrolling the area intercepted the attackers leading to a fierce gun battle in which seven CRPF personnel and a civilian were killed.

The spokesperson said the militant, who entered the camp, is believed to be inside the premises and efforts are on to locate him.

Five personnel, including three CRPF jawans and one each from state police and home guards, have been injured in the gun battle.

The civilian killed appeared to be a rickshaw puller, Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjiv Gupta said.

Giving details about the incident, Additional Director General (Law and Order) Brij Lal said the militants opened fire killing two CRPF men and hurled grenades while entering the group centre.

In the firing inside the premises, five CRPF jawans, who were sleeping, were killed, he said.

However, gate number two, where a large number of arms and ammunition were kept, had not been attacked, he said, adding the area has been cordoned off.

The attack comes close on the heels of a series of bomb blasts which ripped through three court premises in the state in November, killing 13 people.

Miltants attack CRPF camp, 8 dead by Rashmi on 02 Jan 2008

This is one more tragedy; news 8 people died including five Soldiers, The civilian who died reported to be a rickshaw puller who is earning Roti for his family. UP Government announce compensation for those soldiers defending our country and no one could avert it. Just last November intelligence agencies had issued an alert of possible terrorist attack and wash their hands from any responsibility. Every time someone dies on terrorist attack and CM announces compensation, it is a shame because their life is so cheap???From President, Prime-Minister, Governor, UP Chief Minister or any competent officer went to console their family because their roti’s earning dies and no compensation is enough??? No one showed any grief from top President, Prime Minister, Governor , Cheaf Minister or any competent person or senior politician. Any Democracy they had at least worth of honour and shame for us. As, occasionally our Prime Minister suggest that Indians mount candlelight vigils in the Gateway of India but in this case they deserve Candle light as many as candle in those occasion and for those who died today but their family has no candle but dark future. Is it true that we don’t cry those felt dawn today, we are so cruel???God bless our country and protect from such inhuman behaviour!!!

Congress is the root of all terrorism by Satya on 02 Jan 2008

Congress party is the mother of all terrorism in Bharat. Congress party is determined to destablise the nation and make it another terror Pakistan. They removed the POTA to facilitate Jihadi attacks on Bharat and Bharatiya. Even the armed forces are not safe in this country now, as their hands are tied by terror-facilitating Congress govt. Congress heart bleeds for Sorhabuddin, Afzal Guru, Dawood Ibrahim as they are their vote-banks. And Congress is busy with muslim reservations. Congress must be removed from power to save the nation. Italian woman is determined to destroy this Bharat before she fled away. Manmohan is just implementing that woman's design.

Man Moron Singh by Suresh on 01 Jan 2008

Man Moron Singh, hire more muslim terrorists in CRPF and military. Muslims will never fight for India. They will fight for Pakistan and then Islam. With your policy of hiring muslims in military proportionate to thier population, you are basically training military for pakistan. You moron, why don't you hire muslims for your own security? And for your god mother Sonia's security?

Miltants attack CRPF camp, 8 dead by Hemant on 01 Jan 2008

You are CRPF. You don't have an excuse. If you lost soldiers today it is because you were lax and not solid in your defense. I agree with Mayawati (don't like her very much though). And let us keep the Hindu-Muslim crap out of this one. If the CRPF was alert this wouldn't have happened. The families of the slain soldiers will mourn their loss. My heartfelt condolences to them. My only question is how the hell did the terrorists get away? If you had intel why weren't you alert? If one of them gets in with grenades and what not... were you guys unarmed? Do you guys learn any tactics when you train? Do you guys train at all? The commander of the outpost is responsible for his soldiers staying motivated and alert. I want his head to roll for this attack. He was the one who definitely received the intel on this from the agencies and still was not "leader enough" to get his guys to be alert to ward off the threat and come out victorious. I bet he was sleeping peacefully when his underprepared soldiers "supposedly" laid down their lives... Chaddi pehne bacche nahin ho aap log, desh ki hifazat karna aap logon the dharm hai. Jab apni hifazat nahin kar sakte ho aap log to desh ki hifazat kya khaak karo ge?

Take care of your crap first by Govind on 01 Jan 2008

Who are you to keep Hindu-Muslim crap out of this? This is already a Hindu-Muslim crap because the attackers were anti-Hindu Jihadist Muslim fanatics out to kill some Hindus. And please stop with this "blame the victim" crap. In war more solidiers die than civilians. Do you mean to say that we should always spit on our soldiers rather than honoring their memory. The problem is with our policies and our attitudes. As long as we allow Islam to make India its home it will not rest until all of India becomes Islamic. Ultimately all of us Indians/Hindus have to accept the blame. Open your eyes and take some responsibility yourself rather than blaming others.

What crap is mine? by Hemant on 01 Jan 2008

Govind a CRPF soldier is a CRPF soldier. Leave the Hindu-Muslim bullshit out of this. You think Muslim soldiers did not lay down their lives during Kargil fighting for India their motherland? Shame on you for casting aspersions on our Muslim soldiers. I am Hindu, I wouldn't want to be any other religion but that doesn't mean Muslims cannot be desh bhakt! And CRPF deserved it. They should be ashamed that the enemy came to their doorstep and killed 7 of them and LEFT!! Why should I cry for those incompetent morons? I feel sorry for their families they did not deserve to be left in the lurch.

Fall out of Minority appeasement by UPA by Anoop on 01 Jan 2008

India has become the softest target for militants as we are ruled by a spineless govt under UPA.Statistics says India lost maximum casuality because of terrorism compared to any other countries.Still we are gloating over our tollerance and secularism and the same time criticising Modi or BJP when some communal problem crop up even in places where they do not have presence. We have reached the crescendo of minority appeasement which enbolden the terrorists to carry out dare devil act on soft targets. As far as Sonia is concerned she is least bothered as long as it served their purpose of divide and rule perpetuated by the British regime.

Militant Attack CRPF by Babuchandra on 01 Jan 2008

My sincere condolences to the bereaved family of the CRPF Jawans and the Rickshaw puller. For the government and politicians to take effective steps to tackle and eliminate terrorism, I feel all kind of security cover given to these people should be withdrawn immediately. They should move around like the hapless ordinary citizens of this country who are the victims of terror like this. Then only the politicians including Prime minister and other ministers will understand the importance of eliminating terrorism. Why should they enjoy Z-type security on poor tax payers money when the poor people are the victims of these terrorists.

CRPF Deaths by megh on 01 Jan 2008

Islamic militancy in UP is created by Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayavati clans. For political considerations these 2 jokes in indian history created monsters and now the nation has to bear it. The govt shoud start by trying these 2 clowns for treason and then deal with militancy harshly. there is no other go in UP.

Militant atack on CRF javans by MOHAN DADDIKAR on 01 Jan 2008

The immerdiate response of our Prime Minister and the Home Minister to this tragic killing of CRF javans by the terorists will be "This tragic incident should not affect the cordial relations existing between various religious groups in the counttry. There is every possibility of ISI hand behind this terrorist attack. However, our relations with Pakistan will remain unaffecte by such stray incident." These statements will be made by these high-ranking Ministers before TV cameras under the massive security provided to them at Govt. expense. They will reapppear to utter such nonsense after the next terrorist act without any sign of shame or sorrow for their incompetence to take any effective action against these terrorists.

Let some one explain the rationale of such attacks. by Sharad C. Misra on 01 Jan 2008

We are unable to understand the rationale of such attacks nor has any sociologist or 'secular' politician ever bothered to explain it. What do these killers seek to achieve ? They can neither solve the Kashmir problem nor the Palestinian problem by doing so. If they think that by resorting to Jihad they would be able to establish a global caliphate and impose 'sharia' they would be living in a fool's paradise. To us it seems to be an act of sheer madness to let the commitment to a certain faith override the innate instinct of self-preservation. If such attacks are the manifestation of the 'clash of civilizations' in the words of Prof. Huntington let our secular leaders admit it rather than take the Jihadis as descendants from outer space landing in India to execute Allah's commandments and warning others to protect themselves against such visitations. Let some sociologist at least explain the rationale these murderous missions.

Save us please by Kaushik on 01 Jan 2008

We want Mr Modi as our PM. Only a bold and decisive leader like him can save us from the gallows of this terrorism menace.
