New Delhi The government is believed to be considering a review of the order debarring four top scientists from taking any further government position. Sources said many ministers felt the order was unduly harsh and put a taint on their entire illustrious career.

The issue was discussed at several meetings last week. Some ministers suggested “rewording” the order or finding an alternative to ensure that the contribution of these scientists doesn’t stand sullied due to one case.

“The government will see what best can be done,” a source said.

The government hopes to settle all controversial issues before the Budget session of Parliament later this month. The Supreme Court’s observation about principles of natural justice to be followed in cases like the Army Chief may have also prompted a rethink on the scientists.
