Kolkata, April 15 An inmate who went missing from Dum Dum jail on Monday evening was spotted hiding inside a drain located in the jail premises on Tuesday morning.

Nassem Ali Mollah was nabbed around 2 am after jail officers noticed some movement inside the high drain located near the gate of the jail. A thorough search revealed that the inmate was hiding there.

“After apprehending him, Mollah told us that he was feeling homesick. Yesterday, while other inmates of the jail were walking back to their respective jail wards, he slipped into the high drain and stayed for the night there.

Mollah also said that he stayed inside the drain despite the stench as he was planning to escape when things would settle down,’ said a jail officer.

Twenty-two-year-old Mollah, an undertrial, was sent to jail on April 12 and was kept at ward number two with 29 other inmates.

Around 9 pm on Monday, the jail authorities informed the police that a prisoner has escaped and launched a search operation. “Though we rang the siren and informed the police, yet we continued our search operation inside the jail premises as well,” said B D Sharma, IG, jail.
