Panchkula police have planned intensive patrolling throughout the city to check lawlessness or incidents of eve-teasing.
Said ASP Maneesh Chaudhary, “Putting up nakas will not serve any purpose as our aim is not to challan the violators but to curb lawlessness in the city. The entire force comprising around 55 police officers will be pressed into service. Patrolling will also be stepped up”.
Chaudhary said at least two reserves with 25 police officers, each headed by an inspector-level officer, have been set up.
Mohali police have decided to set up around 20 such nakas in busy markets and “nuisance-prone” areas of the district.
UT Police officers have warned city residents, particularly the youth, against indulging in hooliganism and violating traffic rules and regulations.
“People generally face problems like dangerous and rash driving of overloaded vehicles, use of pressure horns, teasing and harassing unwilling girls and women by throwing colours, water and eggs. If anyone is caught indulging in such activities, he will not be spared,” said DSP (Traffic) J S Cheema.
Special emphasis has been placed on areas around co-education colleges, girls’ hostels and on the Panjab University campus.
The road from Hotel Mountview to the Sector 10-11 intersection has been marked as a stern vigil zone till evening around 5 pm. Women officers have also been deployed in plain clothes.
Besides this, Police Control Room, police station staff and CID officers, in plain clothes, will also remain deployed in and around the colleges and the Panjab University campus.
Special nakas will be set up in the city’s busy markets to curb any sort of traffic congestion and snarls.
