Kolkata, April 03 Raising question marks on the security of VVIPs, a motorcyclist rammed into the convoy of Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi at Khadinan crossing, near Bagnan in Howrah district on Thursday.

In the mishap, which breached the Governor’s security cordon, motorcyclist Dipankar Meur, a resident of Mandaria village in Amta, Howrah, suffered head injuries.

A Raj Bhavan spokesperson said Gandhi was returning from West Midnapore where he had gone to attend a function at the Vidyasagar College.

Howrah Superintendent of Police Neeraj Singh said, that a motorcycle landing in front of the Governor’s convoy “is a matter of serious concern”.

“We are looking into the fact to ascertain if there was any lapse on the part of the police,” he added.

Following the accident, Meur was rushed to the Bagnan Gramin Hospital and administered two stitches on his head.

The Raj Bhavan spokesperson added that Gandhi had personally spoken to Meur over the phone, as well as the hospital doctors. Meur is said to be out of danger.
