Rampur Launching a scathing attack on Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and senior party leader Azam Khan, the Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid has accused them of befooling, exploiting and neglecting Muslims.

Both the leaders were busy furthering their political interests instead of improving the lot of Muslims who had voted overwhelmingly for them in the election, Syed Ahmed Bukhari told reporters.

"Mulayam has always befooled and exploited Muslims while Khan is busy furthering his own interests," he said.

Instead of working for the betterment of Muslims, they had neglected the community which had pinned hopes on them, Bukhari alleged.

He said Khan had also lost his grip over the party with his views on Kalyan-Mulayam new-found bonhomie did not finding favour with the SP chief.

Bukhari, however, supported actor-turned-politician and SP candidate Jayaprada who is re-contesting the Lok Sabha election from Rampur.

He appealed to voters to re-elect her.

Havent you ? by Shah P. A. on 23 Mar 2009

Mr. Bukhari, if there's anyone around who's been fooling Muslims the most, its you. Unfortunate that religious leaders have so much say in matters not pertaining to religion.

‘Mulayam has always befooled and exploited Muslims’ by Bimal Prasad Mohapatra on 23 Mar 2009

What is new in this observation of Shahi Imam? This is a known fact that not only the Muslim but also the other minorities as well as the backward castes in India are remembered just before the elections by the politicians of Mulayan and Khan's hues and dumped till the next election. This is what Imam complain today. Imam is an educated and enlightened community leader of Muslim community. The Muslims not only expect from him enlightened guidance but also advises which help them to be equal and vibrant citizens of this nation. But for reason best known to him, he preferred to remain the potent vanguard of politicians' political vested interests in the community by blindly issuing fatwas occasions after occasions since independence. If the Muslim community is backward, he is not less responsible for that like the politicians he is blaming today. Politicians has a vested interest in keeping people illiterate and backwards because they can manipulate them easily. So also may be Imam!

Imams of election time by Mohamed Kutty on 23 Mar 2009

You are absolutely correct. Not only these politician but also Imams like Abdulla Bukhari paly with Muslims sentiments. These advocates never tried to improve the pathetic conditions of Muslims and didnt guide them to the mainstream. Thanks for your comment.

Not suprising by Trapdaar on 22 Mar 2009
