Taking cognisance of video footage telecast by television channels, the EC served a notice on the SP leader and sought a reply by March 14, an EC spokesman said in New Delhi. Chief Electoral Officer AK Bishnoi said he had sought a report from District Magistrate in this regard.
Video footage of some people distributing money at a "Holi Milan" programme at Yadav's native Saifai in Etawah district on Wednesday was aired by some news channels but the SP chief denied that he had distributed any money and claimed it was a tradition to "reward" those who perform during Holi festivities.
"If you want to ban it than ban the Holi festival too," a miffed SP chief told reporters in Lucknow.
"It's a tradition to give 'inam' (reward) to those who dance and sing on Holi. But unfortunately this time I have not given anything to anyone", he said.
"If some workers have given something to them from their own pocket they have done so on their own," he said. Criticising electronic media for airing footage of the Holi function, Yadav said it was not fair to "politicise traditions" followed during festivals.
The Election Commission said the "act of bribing a large number of persons in a public gathering is clear violation of the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct. It is apparent that distribution of money in your presence has been made with a view of soliciting votes and support for yourself and your party," the EC said in its notice.
Seeking his response by March 14, the EC asked the SP leader to explain as to why he "disregarded and violated the Model Code of Conduct, failing which the Commission will take further action without any further notice".
The BJP, meanwhile, accused the SP and ruling BSP in Uttar Pradesh of openly flouting model code of conduct. "The Commission should immediately take action against him (Yadav). The way in which money is openly distributed in his presence at Safai should not be tolerated", BJP state Vice President Hriday Narain Dixit said.

Here is where Amar sing comes into picture. He is broker between riches from Film Industry and bigwigs of other industry. He channels money in politics and buys favors for those contribute to his party.
mulayam and amar are 2 political vultures, they are in politics not for the love of country but the lust of power and riches that drive them. shameful to distribute money, after all it is not your hard earned money, it counts nothing to you, earn a decent living out of your hard word if you are a man, both donot deserve a place in the parliament but it is india, everything is possible,JAI HO!
This is nothing but bribery for buying votes and the politician concerned should be banned from current and future elections. These MPs (monkeys of Parliament) will always give some excuses when coaught on camera. Our judges are also currrupt and find out some excuses to free these MPS

Mulayam is vocal supporter of SIMI... VOTE BJP
Boy , hypocracy is tested to extreme , you need to born again , good to see the fools steaming fragrance even larger than kamal ka fool .
Tamil Nadu distributes free TV's, Gas Stoves based on its approved budget. There are some new health schemes going on in this state after the formation of the new govt. They are on-going projects benefiting the poor and downtrodden with budget approvals and nothing to do with the current election. But the election commission ordered the suspension of all such schemes. In my opinion this is not correct and the act of the commission is excessive. Can they stop noon meal scheme in schools by the same logic?
Also, please verify if the notes are original or fake.Incase of fake, just grill SP guys.
I totally second that motion. People like Amar Singh, Mulayam Singh, Karunanidhi, Yedyurappa, Chautala, Thackeray(the whole family), Chavan, Deshmukh, etc etc to name a few... are disgusting. They are scum and a symptomatic tumor, which should wiped out mercilessly. I dont have words to express the disgust I feel for these people.
You may be right to a great extent but you forgot to add the names of other UPA leaders. They are worse than these people. Infact all the mess, corruption and evil in Indian Society is all their making
You missed the Gandhis (The Fake ones : Sonia, Rahul, Priyanka).
Are you a communist? You have take everyone's name with etc.Only communist can have such anger towards politicians. There is deep conspiracy by the communist to provoke people and create anger against all politicians and then create anarchy in India. Then you people will rule...Some politicians might be bad but many are good also. We have freedom to criticize the bad one But in communism we cannot do so. We love democracy and politicians however bad they are....
This is a wonderful opportunity to ban both opportunist parties. Such political parties are what are dragging India into the dark ages. Uttar Pradesh is an ideal state to be put under Presidents rule...
Imagine BJP raising a hue and cry over this ... talk of the murderer crying theft ... they distributed systematically esteem fulls of cash in RT nagar area in Bangalore before the Karnataka state elections this time (15000 per family) and also went inside the booths to make sure that the votes were correctly marked. A mockery of "secret ballot" .
