He also asked for a judicial probe into the Delhi’s Jamia Nagar encounter.
Addressing a press conference, Mulayam said there was no justification for constructing the 1,047 km expressway, which will link Greater Noida with Balia in eastern Uttar Pradesh. He added that the government must stop the process of acquiring fertile land for the project.
The party has decided to launch an agitation — Dera Dalo, Ghera Dalo — across the state from October 21 to 23. The protest will be based on the 13 demands chalked out by the party high command.
These include: uninterrupted power supply for at least 18 hours, probe into the murders of advocates, holding of student union elections, abolition of VAT, reinstatement of the constables who were dismissed from their service, and increase in the support price of wheat, rice and cane.
Regarding the Jamia Nagar encounter, the former chief minister said, “A probe will establish the truth.”
As for Amar Singh’s remark on the judicial probe into the Jamia Nagar encounter, Yadav made it clear that “Amar Singh’s statement was completely in tune with the party’s stand.”
Yadav, however, refuted Amar Singh’s statement over the withdrawal of support if the UPA government failed to initiate a probe into the encounter.
“SP’s support to the UPA government was in the national interest and there was no question of withdrawal,” he said. The SP chief also spoke about the tag of “terror hot bed” attached with Azamgarh. According to Yadav, it was Pakistan, which was the nursery of terrorism and not Azamgarh.
Regarding the Lok Sabha elections, Yadav said, “The elections will be extended over a month as the preparation of voters’ list is still in the process.”
About the consequences of an alliance with the Congress for the next Parliamentary elections, he said: “Samjahuta ho jaye toh safaya kar denge (If the alliance takes a final shape, we will sweep the poll)”.
BSP hits back at Samajwadi Party
The ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) hit back at SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav saying, he was crticising the BSP, as he was upset with the shrinking base of his party in the state.
State BSP president Swami Prasad Maurya said SP’s allegations against the state government that it was implicating people from minority community in fake cases was baseless.
Regarding SP’s demand for abolition of VAT, the BSP said Yadav was worried about his shrinking vote bank among traders, and not the traders per se. The BSP also blamed the former chief minister for damaging democratic institutions during his rule. He had conferred the Yash Bharti Award to his favourites, including three members from one family of Bollywood, and had exempted all films of one actor from entertainment tax, causing a loss to the state exchequer, Maurya alleged. He told Yadav to introspect, instead of slamming the state government.

The tone of Mulayam Singh Yadav makes it clear that if he returns to power in the state he will surely stop the work on the one thousand mile long expressway in the state. If that is to happen it will cause great losses to the state and put an impediment on the various welfare projects being taken up in the state. As a responsible political leader he is supposed to cooperate with the government in carrying a project of the dimension of the expressway. At the same time the government while preparing a projhect should involve all the parties in the planning of the project. When a government changes does not mean that all on going projects should be scrapped only because they have been conceived by their rivals. This is a bad thinking. If that is the scene, no welfare projects will ever be complete and all the public funds will be going the drain for all years to come. This should stop. Hope the people concerned will consider it in seriousness.
I don’t know when politicians in India would rise above their vested interests and stop playing vote politics. If the police fail to nab the culprits, then these politicians are behind their lives and are indulged in blame games. Even when the police has been able to come out with some results, then also they are behind their lives questioning the credibility of their action. This is so ridiculous. If this is the repercussion of giving life for the country then who will in future even dare to think about doing anything for the country? This will only de-motivate the (few left) sincere police officials and eventually encourage them to be corrupt rather than sincere and honest. It is we Indians, the public, who has to decide whether to encourage politicians like Amar Singh and others who simply harp on smelling the r@t, when actually they are concerned only about how it will affect their performance in the upcoming elections especially when their constituency falls in a state where the m
