Gilani sought to compare the terrorist attacks in Mumbai to the Israeli strikes in Gaza and what he termed ‘atrocities’ being committed on innocent people in Jammu and Kashmir and questioned why the world community was silent on such issues.
"We have to see that the world does not have double standards," he said on the sidelines of an official function in this southern port city.
Noting that hundreds of people were killed in a suicide bomb attack on slain former Premier Benazir Bhutto's homecoming motorcade in Karachi in October 2007 and that several foreigners, including an envoy, were killed in the suicide bombing of the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad in September, 2008, Gilani asked, "how much noise’ the world community had made about these incidents.
"How much noise did the world make then? Why didn't they say anything?" he said.
"Where was the world then? The world should think in a neutral manner. There is no need for them to make so much noise on one incident," he added.
Gilani said: "As far as the Mumbai incident is concerned - see how many innocent children and women have been killed in Palestine. That is no less than the Mumbai attacks. So why is no one speaking about that? Why is the world silent on that?"
"Whatever is happening in Kashmir, atrocities are being committed against innocent people there. When they speak of indigenous self-determination, that cannot be classified as terrorism. Why is the world silent on that," Gilani asked.
He attributed the Mumbai attacks to ‘an intelligence failure in India’, saying this was the neighbouring country's ‘internal matter’. He added: "As far as the world is concerned, it is presenting this one incident in an exaggerated manner."
Pakistan is prepared for ‘complete cooperation’ with India to probe the Mumbai incident, including intelligence cooperation. "But we do not want that they should demoralise or ridicule Pakistan through the media or diplomacy," he said.
"You should not think Pakistan is weak. Pakistan is strong and its defence is strong. The country's army is strong and highly professional. There is no need to feel threatened," he added.
With a hint of sarcasm, he said: "They say 10 people held the whole of India hostage. We pray for their security everyday because if any other incident happens in India, it will be blamed on us. We are now defending two countries, not one. We are defending them and ourselves."
At the same time, he said Pakistan wants good relations with all neighbours, including India and Afghanistan.
Gilani also repeated an assertion he had made some time ago that more people had died in the suicide bombing on Benazir Bhutto's motorcade in Karachi than in the Mumbai attacks. He said over 180 people were killed in the bombing of the motorcade in October 2007.
According to most accounts, about 140 people were killed in the bombing of Bhutto's motorcade while over 180 people were killed in the Mumbai attacks.

When I read the comments posted, I am amazed at the immense hatred for Pak that has been generated in India after the Mumbai attacks.

What happened in Marriot is the internal matter of Pakistan. If they could not stop it no body from outside could have stopped it. With regard to Israel attach on Gaza it was the Hamas that has broken the cease fire and rained rockets on Israel territory. It is but natural that Israel would react the way any other country will. On Kashmir it is better that Pakistan stop sending the terrorists to create trouble in the valley after the successful conduct of the free election in the state. If Pakistani establishment still feel that they can bleed India by inflicting 1000 cuts, they are for dissappointment. They should now worry about the dismemberment of their own country. The sooner they realise the better.
So, it should be alright to destroy the training camps and their operators located in Pakistan as information given by Kasab, the Pakistani terrorist who was captured alive at Mumbai blasts site. The Prime Minister of Pakistan himself sanctions such an action describing that Mumbai blasts are an internal matter of India. Similar must be his thinking to the bombings by USA and the EU allies of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border areas as they too are considered " internal matters " .Government of India has another option which stands sanctioned by the P.M. of Pakistan.
Mr.Gilani is supposed to be the prime minister of a country-Pakistan.If he is giving irresponsible statements like 'Mumbai attacks is Indian internal matter',I wonder what morals the at ordinary citizens of that country has!. Mr.Gilani-Please note that the ten scoundrels whoi attacked Mumbai are Pakistani citizens.The world has enough proof that they were trained in your country and your ISI officers were involved in thei training. Further more -Your country's talk (which has been going on for years) to tackle terrorism has been nothing more than just talks and has been a process or means of getting aid from other countries. The blast in pakistan on 21/09/2008 and then blast in india on 26/11/2008 happens to be planned. It means gilani made a blast in pakistan first so that he can create a proof later than there was a blast in pakistan too... and both are in sae boat. So this was planned long before.

We do not feel threatened by your petty defense strength what you term it as against the vast power that is India. Be aware of the ground realities where you stand and then talk ! The real problem we as Indians are facing is not terrorism that you are spreading but the corrupt and inefficient politicians running the country. The state terrorism can be dealt by implementation of strong policies however it is difficult to bring a change on the political system where the politicians are a bunch of old useless bodies.
As far as I am aware it was President Zardari who was treated for depression at some point of time in his life. It seems as if Gilani is the true nutcase.
Pakistan should stop training terrorists and using them against India. US should stop aids to Pakistan. If Pak should stop this immediately, India should attack Pakistan in the same way Israel is doing in Gaza to eliminate Hamas terrorists.
Just give Gilani's comments some thought. May be he is saying why is world having such double standards. The world community permits Israel to unleash itself on the terrorists in Gaza because they lobbed a few rockets and it does not allow India to make any military moves even when it was brazenly attacked by Pakistani state sponsored actors in mumbai. May be Gilani wants the world to take action on all these elements in Pakistan including the ISI, Army and the terrorists.... YAWN
Poor Gilani! His statements clearly indicate that PAK Government is supporting terrorist groups and at the same time claim from US for fighting terrorists.
There was no noise from the world, at the time Benezer bhutto was killed. Because it was all planned by Mr. Zardari and ISI, so now he is in power. actually He was fed up of doing husband job of Benezir.

Mr. Gilani's statement is like one hitting his collegue and laughing at him saying :"its your internal matter...buddy...why should I bother ?". No wonder someone who heads the Government says this from a nation born out of treachery.
Even after 61 years of independence it is not understood, why Pak politicians still prefer to become puppets of foreign rulers. These duffers don't understand that the progress and development of India and Pak depend only on unity of both the countries. None else can lead to the origress and development of both the countries.
