Kolkata, August 19 Fourteen-year-old Arka Das, who has been accused of killing a 10-year-old girl allegedly for an iPod, was produced at a juvenile court in Salt Lake on Tuesday.

Around 11.30 am, Arka was brought from Birbhum. He was accompanied by Sanjeeb Sinha Roy, the investigating officer. His parents, however, could not arrive at the court since angry locals attacked their Suri residence. In spite of police protection, his parents could not leave the house.

With Arka’s parents being absent from the court, the juvenile justice board principal magistrate, Mukulika Sinha, was not able to quiz Arka and sent him to Dhruba Ashram in Barasat till September 2.

Earlier, the magistrate had even debarred the police from entering the court premises so that accused boy does not feel any kind of mental pressure. Arka has been charged with Sections 364 (kidnapping for the purpose of murder) and 302 of the IPC (murder).

Arka had gone with Siuli Dolui to Tilpara canal on Sunday afternoon. After she did not return home, her family members started looking out for her. Her body was found in a bush near the canal on Monday morning. “According to what the boy said, he had pushed her down. He also confessed that he intentionally hit the girl with a stone since she was not giving him her iPod,” Roy said.

The police, meanwhile, searched Arka’s house and recovered the iPod. The screen of the red coloured iPod was found damaged. There were no obscene items, but a number of romantic Hindi film songs were stored in the gadget, police said.
