The former army chief, who was forced to step down last August, criticised New York Times journalist David E Sanger over allegations of Pakistani duplicity which he made in a book titled "The Inheritance".
"Get your facts correct, I have never double-dealt," Musharraf said in comments to a number of Pakistani television channels.
Musharraf survived several assassination attempts by al Qaeda inspired militants and was often praised by US President George W Bush as a strong ally in the war on terrorism.
"There is a big conspiracy being hatched against Pakistan, to weaken the Pakistan army and the ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence agency), to weaken Pakistan," said Musharraf, citing the heavy casualties Pakistan's armed forces have suffered fighting militancy.
Sanger's book focuses on the foreign policy challenges faced by U.S. President Barack Obama. Analysts say one of Obama's toughest problems will be to convince Pakistan to close down sanctuaries on its territory used by Taliban and al Qaeda militants.
Besides denying secretly supporting the Taliban, Musharraf also denied he had told the late former prime minister Benazir Bhutto that her safety in Pakistan depended on her relationship with him.
Bhutto was assassinated in December, 2007, two months after returning from self-imposed exile as Musharraf's grip on power began to slip. Bhutto's husband, Asif Ali Zardari, became president after Musharraf resigned.

Mr.Musharraf has still full-fledged command over ISI and even military set-up of Pakistan. He appointed Qyani head of forces and got commitment from him to serve his cause and stay sincere to his hidden authority. He is master mind who promoted AlQaeda and Taliban to the peak. Most of the weapons used by Taliban are from Pak Army which are partially discarded,in papers.Assassination attempts were his own intrigues to gain popularity, keep his face clean and convince world community of his sincerity to fight terrorists(Talibans and AlQaeda etc).He was and is liar,a master of manipulations but definitely good for his Nation. He is helping terrorists in Pakistan even today with only aim to revenge India, which he had sworn, and he knows without this terror policy Pakistan won't survivie even a month.
Mush did not "back" Taliban; he created it !!!!
Since the inception of Pakistani its leaders and dictators had been SECRETLY SUPPORTING TERRORISM and at the same time OPENLY OPPOSING TERRORISM. Its kleptocratic leaders continue to swindle the World Bank, Donor Nations and other nations of the world by blackmail and threats. It’s time for the US, to take effective, coherent and concerted actions to shrink the growing military might of Pakistan; as a future Pakistan under the uncontrollable militarily oriented and feudal autocratic rulers will be a threat to world equally as much to the US.
MIA MUSHRAFF IS RIGHT, HE NEVER SECRETLY BACKED TALIBAN,"HE OPENLY BACKED TALIBAN."
Musharraff is the savior of Taliban, wh musharraff can't deny. Now he is talking abt conspiracy hatched against to malaign his prestige as he says is, to rebuild his image. but is too late for him shed crocodile tear. all the world know now tt he is the mentor Taliban supported by US then ruled by tt country. one side he si showing hsi soft corner towards India on the other hand he is injecting venom against us. i feel, he shd not called in this country by Indiatimes enclave conference, he shd be barred entry into India at any cost.
Every one knows what Musharaff did when he was the president he was responsible for the growth of Taliban and Supported the I.S.I in all the deeds.
