Musical evening organised to remember late Prof Cheema

Ludhiana, August 28 Aqeedat, a music programme, based on the immortal songs of famous playback singer Mukesh, who died on this day years back in 1976, was organised at Punjabi Bhavan on Wednesday evening .

The programme was devoted to Prof M.S. Cheema, a noted scholar of the city, who had passed away on 15th of this month. The programme was the held under the banner of Adeeb International (Sahir Cultural Academy), Dhvani (Association for Promotion of Arts) and Punjabi Sahit Akademy. Prof M.S. Cheema was closely associated with all these organisations.

The ghazal sung by Randhir Kanwal set the mood of the evening when he sang creation of famous poet of the sub-continent Nasir Qazmi “Gaye dinon ka suragh laiker kidhar se ayea kidhar gaya woh. Ajeeb manoos ajnabi ha mujhe to hairan kar gaya woh.”

Thereafter started the show based on the songs of Mukesh. Randhir and Irani sang duet from film Mela, “Dharti ko akaash pukare.” Noted senior artist of the city, Neelam Khosla sang, “Dil jalta hai to jalne de,” “Ansoo bhari hain yeh jeevan ki rahein.” Zinia sang famous song of Mukesh from film Rani Roopmati, “Aa laut ke aa ja mere meet.” Ritika sang the song with which Mukesh made his comeback after a brief stint with acting, “Yeh mera deewanapan hai.”

Dr Vikram sang one of most popular songs of the film industry “Jane kahan gaye voh din” from film Mera Naam Joker. Rashi gave another famous number of Mukesh: “Ik pyar ka naghma hai” and Irani sang “Kahin door jab din dhal jaye” from Anand.

Arun sang,” Mein to har mor par tujh ko doonga sadaa.” Randhir gave out a few more of the Mukesh numbers including a beautiful-yet-difficult composition of “Milap-kayee sadiyoon se.” The programme concluded with a medley in which all the participants came on the stage. The programme was designed and executed by Chiraagh and compered by Kamlesh Gupta.

Dhvani mourned the death of legendry urdu poet, Ahmed Faraaz, who passed away in Pakistan on August 26. Besides the patrons of Dhvani, Dr Kewal Dheer, Prof N.K. Kalia, Dr Surjit Patar, MLA, Dr Harish Rai Dhanda and S.S. Dhillon, members of Dhvani viz. Randhir Kanwal, Anil Kumar, Chiragh, Nona Khanna, Rakhi Kanwal, Kamlesh Gupta, Neelam Khoslamourned the death of the remarkable poet.
