“What Deoband has said is not new. Terrorism has been described as a crime against humanity. We have always condemned terrorism,” Mohammed Abdur Raheem Quraishi, Assistant General Secretary of the AIMPLB told reporters here.
Quraishi later told The Indian Express that while terrorism has not been included in its agenda for discussion during the 20th session of the board beginning this Saturday in Kolkata, there is a greater possibility of the issue being raised.
The board’s general secretary Syed Nizamuddin, however, held the ‘western forces’ responsible for the armed ‘resistance’ being carried out by locals in Iraq and Afghanistan.
During the two-day session, the board’s various committees will give its presentation. Apart from it, the upcoming session will also delve deeply into two issues that are of prime concern to the community— Babri Masjid issue and the compulsory registration of marriages.
In a statement issued, the Board has raised concern over the compulsory registration of marriages. “Nowadays there is much hue and cry about the compulsory registration of marriages. The Board is not against registration but feels that making it compulsory is going to create hardship and difficulties for a large section of people irrespective of caste or creed. We have no administrative mechanism at the village level and one cannot expect a poor villager to come to the registration office along with his spouse and witnesses.”
