My joining SP would have upset my father: Sanjay Dutt

New Delhi Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has said his father Sunil Dutt, who was a Congress leader, might have been upset over his joining Samajwadi Party.

"May be he would have been (upset) but I would have managed to convince him (Sunil Dutt). Because I think Congress and Samajwadi Party share the similar views of secularism, of helping the people in the nation. I think that is why they are in alliance," Dutt told NDTV.

The remarks by the actor, who will be SP's Lok Sabha poll candidate from Lucknow, came just days after his sister Priya Dutt, a Congress MP from Mumbai, had expressed disappointment over his plans to join Samajwadi Party.

Reacting to speculation of a growing rift between his wife and sister, Sanjay said: "No, Mayanta is my wife and there is no two verse about it. She is my family as of now and always will be.

"....In any family in the world when a girl comes..., there are problems and we will sort them out", he added.

Sanjay Dutt the future MP by Chandramohan Shinde on 22 Jan 2009

It is unfortunate that parliament is now being used as an escape from punishments given by country's courts after crime is proved. It is a failure of democracy. Parliamentary reforms are necessary to keep away criminals from entering parliament. However, after every election their number is increasing. In the present era of coalition governments every single vote counts. Recently some jailed parliamentarians were brought from prisons to vote during a confidence motion and a punished MP became Chief Minister of a state ! A criminal like Abu Salem also is preparing to fight an election now. Ever increasing criminals in parliament will stall election reforms. The day is not far off when India will see a prime minister who had been jailed for some criminal activity.

I have to say to Sanjay that not only his father would have been upset but many Indians are upset right now for being a stooge of Amar Sngh. You may be a good actor but you have no qualities to become a politician. If you are a good son of Bharat carry on your usual work without indulging in politics. Don't become a disgrace to this country.
