Kolkata, January 6 The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) may have indicated that graphic designer Rizwanur Rehman committed suicide on September 21, but his family still believes he was murdered.

Reacting to media reports to this effect, Rehman’s mother Kishwar Jehan said today, “My son was killed. It does not matter what the media report says. I do not believe it. The guilty should be punished.”

The CBI is supposed to submit its report before the Calcutta High Court on January 8. According to sources, the much-awaited report accuses a number of people, including his in-laws, of abetting suicide.

“I trust the CBI and believe they will get justice for me. But he (Rehman) did not commit suicide. I know him better than anyone else in the world. I will wait for the report,” said Jehan.

Life has not been the same for her and other members of the family after Rehman’s death. Rehman’s brother Rukbanur Rehman said, “We have toiled hard for justice. After my brother’s death, everything changed. The media glare, the investigation, first by the CID then the CBI. It is a clear case of murder and we are hopeful that CBI will highlight the truth.”

He added, “Abetment charges are not that significant and the people responsible will go scot-free. We are waiting for the formal report and will decide what to do after that.”
