My team to be on guard against Indians: SA coach

Durban, February 5: South African coach Mickey Arthur has said his team would be equipped with spin options on their tour of India, where they are expecting some tough competition from the hosts in March-April.

Arthur was not carried away by his team's 2-1 win in the recent Test series against the visiting West Indians, who they also whitewashed 5-0 in the one-day contests.

He said his team would have to be on the guard against the Indians after their impressive show against Australia as South Africa play Tests in Chennai, Ahmedabad and Kanpur.

The South African coach said the team management did not know much about the three Test venues in India and would have to do some homework.

"I'm told spinners will play a huge part in Chennai and Ahmedabad and it could be a case of seam at Kanpur. But we will have to do some work on each of the venues," Arthur said.

"We were at Chennai and Ahmedabad for the Afro-Asian Cup but conditions at that time were different," he said.

The coach said the team would need at least two spinners for the tour and one of them would be Johan Botha.

Their next assignment takes the South Africans on a tour of South Asia later this month. They play two Tests and three one-dayers against Bangladesh and then tour India for the three Tests.
