Chandigarh, February 13 The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is carrying out widening of V-6 roads in Sector 44 at the cost of residents’ convenience. For the past couple of weeks, piles of cement blocks have blocked the parking space of vehicles in the area, making it difficult for residents to park their vehicles, while the MC authorities have failed to do the needful.

At present, the corporation is widening the V-6 road in Sector 44B and 44C by 3 feet on both the sides. In the process, MC has also dismantled curve channels and has placed concrete blocks in front of many houses.

The fact that former Mayor Harjinder Kaur represented the area in the MC, has failed to ensure the speedy execution of the road widening work here. While the residents are complaining about inconvenience due to official apathy, the officials have been maintaining that the weather is not conducive to carry out road-carpeting work.

MC Superintending Engineer (B&R) Yogesh Gupta said, “Road-carpeting will start only after temperature go high.” He said the cold weather conditions have made the hot mix plants non-functional.

Not satisfied with the reply, many residents are now questioning the MC officials for starting the work despite knowing the conditions beforehand.

Former Mayor and Area Councillor Harjinder Kaur said residents have brought the issue to her notice and she has requested the MC Chief Engineer S K Bansal to visit the site, which the latter has refused.

She complained that the MC officials are deliberately ignoring her ward.

She said that it is not only the residential area, but the market has also heaps of garbage dumped there. “Today, I inaugurated a toilet in the market and found heaps of garbage lying adjacent to it. It seems that officials are being instructed to ignore my ward,” she added.
