Amritsar, January 20 Circulation of copies of the report given by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) by Guru Nanak Dev University authorities has caused resentment among university professors, who allege that the report is not complete and bears only positive comments about the university. The professors have demanded that they be granted access to the original and complete report given by the NAAC.

The professors have accused the authorities of withholding important facts stated in the report. “Not only is the report abridged, but it is also unsigned, which implies that it is not original,” said a professor. They said instead of having a hard look at some of the shortcomings pointed out by the report, university authorities were busy in projecting themselves as achievers.

“The circulated report is just a computer print-out on plain paper and does not bear any authority’s signature. It only bears laudatory comments of the accrediting body about the university,” said another professor of the university . He said the fact that the circulated copies were unsigned, raised doubts about the authenticity of the report. “Authentic reports and documents are always signed,” he said

“We have failed to understand why the university authorities have circulated an abridged and unsigned report,” said another professor. “While its nice to know about the good comments given by NAAC on the university’s performance, the teachers also need to know the suggestions of the accreditation authority to help improve the academic standards further. But the report circulated among the teaching fraternity hardly has anything of this sort,” he said.

Meanwhile, Registrar Dr RS Bawa said the university authorities, through the circular, had informed the professors what they should know about NAAC’ assessment. “The circulated report has all that the teachers need to know. If at all they harbour any doubts about the credibility of the report or need to know something more, they should consult the authorities concerned,” he added.
