Srinagar To finalise the sharing of seats for the LoK Sabha polls in Jammu and Kashmir, the Coordination Committee comprising senior leaders of coalition partners Congress and National Conference will be meeting in Jammu.

This will be the first meeting of the newly formed Coordination Committee to discuss the up coming LoK Sabha polls. J-K has six parliamentary seats and coalition partners National Conference and Congress have decided to contest the LoK Sabha elections jointly to grab maximum number of seats.

“The Coordination Committee of Congress and National Conference will be meeting in Jammu to discuss the strategy for the upcoming polls,” JKPCC president and Union Water Resources Minister Prof Saifuddin Soz said. “We will also discuss about sharing of the parliamentary seats.”

Congress and National Conference have already contested Rajya Sabha polls jointly and won all the four Rajya Sabha seats from the state. Both the parties have also fielded joint candidates for the 11 Council seats. Leaders of both the parties feel that joint candidates for parliamentary seats will give coalition partners an edge in all the three regions Jammu, Ladakh and Kashmir.

In Jammu and Udhampur parliamentary constituencies, Congress is facing stiff competition from BJP. In South Kashmir’s Anantnag and North Kashmir’s Baramulla, NC will have to face tough resistance from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Sources said that being a national party, Congress leaders will insist for four seats, two seats in Jammu, one in Kashmir and another in Ladakh. The party sources said the Congress leaders are interested in leaving two seats of Kashmir for the National Conference. However any decision will be taken with mutual consensus.
