Pune, January 13 A Corporator belonging to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation was attacked with hockey sticks and an iron rods during a brawl between two local groups near Ashok theatre in Pimpri on late Saturday late evening. The corporator, Dabbu Aswani, of the Nationalist Congress Party, was first taken to the Yeshwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital in Sant Tukaramnagar area and then admitted to a private hospital after the incident. His condition is stated to be stable.

The two others, including Chadan Sonkar from the rival group, were admitted to YCM hospital for treatment. Cross complaints have been lodged at the Pimpri police station. According to the police, Sonkar had an argument with Aswani's nephew around 10 pm. When Aswani intervened in the matter, a major scuffle broke out between the two groups.

Aswani was beaten up with hockey sticks and iron rods, the police said. Police suspect that the brawl was an outcome of political rivalry between Aswani and a Congress party leader from Pimpri.
