Patil, who was recently elected to the Lok Sabha from Osmanabad in Marathwada, has been charged with the murder of Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar and his driver three years ago.
After a court here, about 60 kms from Mumbai, sent Patil to CBI custody till June 14, CBI Joint Director Rishiraj Singh told reporters that as per Parliament Rules 229, 230, a report has been submitted to Lok Sabha Speaker about arrest and alleged involvement of Patil in the murder case.
"Patil has been booked for conspiracy and double murder.
Further details of the case, if any, will be issued by Lok Sabha Secretariat," he said.
Two co-accused, Parasmal Jain and Mohan Shukla, had allegedly confessed to the CBI that the former Maharashtra Minister ordered killing of Nimbalkar following business rivalry.
Pawanraje and his driver Samad Kazi were shot dead while travelling on the Mumbai-Pune express highway on June 3, 2006, at Kalamboli.
Osmanabad Tense
The arrest of Padamsinh Patil's on Sunday in connection with Pawanraje Nimbalkar murder case sparked violence in his constituency Osmanabad where party workers forced business establishments to shut down.
NCP workers damaged a van of a private news channel and five buses of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation as the news of Patil's arrest spread, police sources said.
The situation in the district in Marathwada region of Central Maharashtra was tense but under control, they said. Two companies of State Reserve Police Force have been deployed in the city and additional police force has been pressed into service. So far no one has been arrested in this connection, they said.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena and BJP activists staged a blockade on Mumbai-Hyderabad National Highway Number 9 near Umerga demanding the resignation of Padamsinh Patil and his son Rana Jagjit Singh Patil, who is minister of state for industries in Ashok Chavan's cabinet.
The district superintendent of police, additional Superintendent of police and a senior police inspector are on leave for the last two days. Nimbalkar and his driver were shot dead in a car on June 3, 2006 at Kalamboli, in Navi Mumbai near here.

What a shame for a politician, NCP leader and Lok Sabha MP Padamsinh Patil has been booked for ‘double murder’. Straightforward honest Politicians' job is to observe the principles of " SERVICE, SACRIFICE and PATRIOTISM " and disply his qualities as " ROLE MODELS " to people. Unfortunately most criminals join politics only with selfish interest for the prosperity of themslves and their henchmen. Mark my word. If hundreds of civilians killed including the police personnel who are to protect us our Congress Government in Maharashtra are not moved an inch. So death of two individuals for personal rivalry will not make Mr.Ashok Chavan sleepless. Let the heat subside and you will see the same Sharad Pawar jumping to the rescue of the accused. It is all in the game called politics. It is only we the common people elect them to render us more and more impotent.
The muck in Parliament is slowly coming out. Such lawless characters are making laws for the country. And these are the types whose support Sonia and Manmohan take to stay in power.

we have seen in past in large of numbers of high profile cases of politicians and bureaucrats involved in huge financial irregularity or misappropriation of public funds or of heinous criminal act were booked for political mileage or later cleared for politica compulsion or some quid pro. Over and above several times we publically exeperienced that the highly influential evil elements had used CBI the premium investgation agency as household tools to settle their personal scores and make easy way to run ill will agenda. This is one better for Sharad Pawar's party. Their true colours are seen. Hopefully CBI does not offer clean-cheat. But with big money, NCP will try to hush the matter. This is same NCP who thought dance-bars were bad! Thes established politicians must go. They cannot be treated as above the law.
Padamsingh Patil could indulge in such nefarious act only becasue of his close assocaition with Sharad Power who has been careful to retain the Ministry of Home with the NCP so that all the illegal activities of NCP men will go unhindered by police control. The recent rout in the Loksabha Elections and this lalest ugly incident has rung death toll for NCP, and it marks the end of the manipulative and casteist policies of Sharad Pawar for the last three decades in Maharashta.

Politicans think they are above Law. They can get people killed, tortured, honest policemen transfered and collect tons of BLACK MONEY to buy SUV's costing 50 lacs and arrive in them for Parliament. I hope the CBI
