ND Heroes enter main draw

New Delhi, February 18 OSIAN’s New Delhi Heroes and Punjab Police, Jalandhar registered wins in identical fashion to earn full points in the 4th Lt Governor’s Invitational DDA Football tournament here on Monday.

In a league B match, ND Heroes beat Peerless Sports, Kolkata 3-0 to enter the knock-out stage. The local outfit struck as early as the third minute to lead through an Amzad Hussain goal. Baba Tunde, who was later adjudged the player of the match, was next to score in the 30th minute, giving ND Heroes a 2-0 lead. The final blow to hapless Peerless Sports came in the 85th minute when a Gyan Moyon shot found the back of the net.

Another Delhi team, Ahbab FC, however, was on the losing side. Ahbab lost to Punjab Police 0-3. Punjab Police scored the fastest goal of the tournament — in the second minute — when Harshdeep Singh slipped the ball past the Ahbab defence. The other goals came in the 74th (Amandeep Singh Batra) and the 75th minute (Harpreet Singh). Harpreet picked up his second Man of the Match award.
