Hyderabad, October 5: The NDA, if it comes to power at the Centre, will not hesitate to conduct a nuclear test if need arises, senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said.

"If the NDA comes to power it will not hesitate to conduct a nuclear test if such a need arises," Sinha told reporters.

Asked whether the BJP would re-negotiate the Indo-US nuclear deal if it came to power after the next Lok Sabha elections, the former External Affairs minister said it would certainly do so.

"We will certainly re-negotiate it after going through the deal left by the UPA Government.

"The country is not going to get anything out of the nuclear deal. On the contrary, after its operationalisation, the country loses the right to conduct nuclear tests," he said.

Criticising Union ministers Lalu Prasad and Ram Vilas Paswan, and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for openly extending support to the banned SIMI, Sinha said "Our party is not against Muslims, but against those who are supporting terrorist groups openly."

He said Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh's support of Jamia Millia Islamia Vice Chancellor over legal aid for terror suspects is a serious issue.

The Vice Chancellor has said he would spend public funds to defend two university students, suspected of terror acts, in the court because they are innocent until proved guilty. The official deserves to be arrested for his comments, Sinha said.

Stop making irresponsible stateents by Bhudev on 06 Oct 2008

Mr Yashwant Sinha: As a national leader of a party which has very high prospects of comming to power in the 2009 lok sabha elections, your comment on conducting nuclear test just when the deal is being concluded is highly irresponsible and it surely impacts negatively on your approach to energy security for the nation. You should be aware that US setteled the cold war with USSR without either sides firing a single shot. It would be foolish and highly irresponsible to conduct a nuclear test after investing hundreds of billions of dollars of Indian tax payer money flushing down the drain. Forget about the US, you should recollect that the NSG clearance was no mean task to acomplish especially with Austria, New Zealand, Ireland, Netherland, Norway and most of all, India's biggest rival and enemy No 1 (as George Fernandes had put it once and as China themselves have demonstrated from their back-stabbing behavior) being stuck for a clear clause of withdrawl with India conducting the test.

BJP needs to be commended for keeping the option open to conduct Nuclear Test if the need arises since we are surrounded by hostile neibhours who have time and again back-stabbed us.
