Chandigarh, January 27 Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh has decided to involve NGOs in social projects to ensure exchange of ideas and public participation for improving civic amenities, services and the beautification of the city, Mayor Pardeep Chhabra said in his Republic Day speech. The MC is also going to promote self-help groups for the economic empowerment of the weaker sections of society, he added.

“Facilities including schools, colleges, stadiums and multipurpose hall cum convention centres will be constructed at Manimajra after the finalisation of the Master Plan. Colonies and villages will be upgraded too,” Chhabra said.

Chhabra said elected representatives of people are working for the progress of the city. He said through proper follow-up and monitoring, the MC has come a long way since its formation as far as providing basic services to citizens is concerned.

He said in the coming days, more emphasis would be laid on promoting greater transparency and accountability in the functioning of the corporation.

The mayor said projects like the setting up of a dog pound and bird (chicken) slaughterhouse will be completed on priority and the MC will work actively towards the housing needs of the economically weaker sections of society.

Highlighting various initiatives being taken by the MC to provide better services to residents, he said the entire water supply system of the city will be computerised soon.
