Sources told The Indian Express that the force is particularly miffed with the way its operations at Nariman House were broadcast live. Questions are being raised over the way Havaldar Gajender Singh fell to a terrorist’s bullet at Nariman House. “TV broadcast our commandos landing from a helicopter on the roof over Nariman House. By the time our men landed and started taking positions, the terrorists were already waiting for them and opened fire,” an NSG official said.
In contrast, NSG officials said, operations at Oberoi “could be conducted more smoothly” since TV channels were kept beyond a one-kilometre radius. “This zone was put under virtual curfew with no access allowed to television crews,” said an NSG commando leading the Oberoi operations. “The operations there took the least time, just under 30 hours, as compared to the other two places,” he said.
NSG officials said that while terrorists holed up inside probably did not have access to live TV images on the second and third day of operations, they still phones and were probably getting “instructions” from people watching those live images on TV.

Our TV Chanels should be given instructions how to behave at a time of crisis as the people concerned managing TV Chanels lack commom sense. NSG has rightly complained of live coverage of commandoes descending on the roof top at Nariman House which enabled Terrorists to take positions and fire at them. More over the TV chanels having 24 hr operation but not having enough news only repeat the same story and show the same clip and bore the thinking mind.If they cant be banned at least they should be restrained under a law.
The visual medeia is not behaving with restraint. All the top commentators in all channels are highly opinionated and twist the stories to suit the TRP.
Barkha Dutts article defending herself at the NDTV site is not allowing any critical comments except a few to give credence to her article. Even I tried to post one, but it was not published. Just reflects on her professionalism. I think the media should be prosecuted because it was TV coverage that increased the death toll in the Taj and Nariman House.
Media is like the little child in the Indian movies that exposes the hero by doing a silly act and thereby tilts the balance in favor of the bad guys. In the name of keeping the people abreast of the developments they tend to mess up a lot and it makes sense to keep them away till the work is done. They are a distraction at best and the cause for unnecessary lives lost at the worst.Srinivasan Ranganathan
WE NEED MORE TV MEDIA SPREAD OUT TO EVERY STATE AND EXPOSE THE DRAMA AND THE IMMORAL ACTS OF THE POLITICANS. THANK YOU TV MEDIA. YOU PEOPLE ARE GREAT.
It is important that security of men and their activity should not be compromised at any cost. The media should behave in more responsible manner in future. Our men fight war of nerves and even their shadow should not be exposed. One up man -ship is no justification for this lapse.
This media should have been banned till the operations in mumbai got over. NDTV, CNN IBN, TImes now all of them were competing against each other to break out the plans of the operations by commandos, police, army and all involved. If not for media, some of brave commandos, police and people who sacrificed there lives would have been alive now. A case should be filed against these media for jeopardizing the life of people during mumbai attacks. For these ndtv, cnn ibn, times now and others it has become a commercial business in claiming that they the first to show the planning of commandos this that and all. Had these media been banned, precious lives would have been save. Foolish media should have some basic brain to understand that terrorists do have gadgets and they can see them disclosing the plans of commandos, police, army etc
Only our indian media could do such asenseless job whole world is watching us our inefficiency the way we drop commandos the way they operate and also watched by LET chiefs and instant messages were given to the terrorists and they act accordingly IS THIS LIVE COMMENTRY REQUIRE ? YES TO earn money for the media they are the 2nd line politicians in our country now that fellow arnab of times now is deciding himself that we are gointo war and also this media peoples fuels any tense situation there should be some line drawn now to this media peoples other wise in near future one can see media will take control of various situations in india who has given right to this peoples to cover live NSG actions only in india this FOOLishness happens
This is true that due to media covering live action of NSG it has taken more time to control and also NSG and other agencies as well as captives in nariman house were killed. This is high time that media should b controlled. We only talk of foreign media but our own Indian TV channels are vying to out do each other for which they even don't think what they are doing is right or wrong. They (every)channel claim that they are first to cover the footage, but, whether any time they could stop first any terror act?.The damage done by media is more than the damage done by terrorists.Even in other events of like this, they are reporting concocted stories alongwith the print media. One live example of this is about Purohit for which the story was carried as 60Kg RDX was purchased from Kashmir by Purohit.Which was later denied by the ATS team.
May be electronic media can also have an agency like PTI or AP and this agency alone will be allowed/helped by Govt to cover such events. Then this agency's live feed can be made available to all the media channels. This way I am sure the quality of coverage will also improve. It's easier to train a couple of reporters from one agency then to educate every tom dick and harry that these private channels employ. Even people like Barkha Dutt was seen approaching Taj building the next day despite a fireman and cop making desperate pleas to keep away. Security agency's should put a ribbon around the area and breaching that boundary should be taken as a legal violation. I guess all this happens abroad in more mature countries, we can learn from them. No harm in learning good things.
Let's start with the Home Minister, who informed the world about the NSG operation. Is Indian Intel so dumb that they couldn't jam the communications at the place where the terrorits had holed up!!!!
NSG has a valid point. Media reporters at times crossed their limits and even questions put to their reporters by a premier channels should not have allowed. The world saw our strengths and all the weaknesses which could backfire. However, this should also be taken as to what needs to be done in our stratagey and action.
the stupid low IQ ed news reporters should have been put a bullet by the NSG as they were jeopardising the operations and no body would have said a word.new channels behaved like pain in the neck and they are doing it for who will be the first to report..in fact news channals killed our commondos and they must be held responsible without any mercy. its utter nonsence that reporters are in the way of war operations..
During the recent terrorist attacks in Mumbai, TV channels vied with each other to give live coverage to the daring operations of the NSG commandos, to make it as sensational as possible. In the process, they forgot one vital aspect. They failed to realise that the terrorists too could view them, change their tactics, thwart the valiant attempts of the NSG commandos and achieve their goal, despite their being just 10 in number as against the 400 odd National Security Guards deployed in the operations. Stringent measures should have been taken by the authorities to keep away the crowd, especially those from the electronic media. Man learns from experience. Here is a valuable lesson. The undue advantage gained by the small but determined group of terrorists should teach the authorities and the T.V. people a bitter lesson. We cannot afford to lose so many precious lives in future through such senseless acts.
The terrorism ofthemedia should be curbed now; otherwise, they will think they are the better judges in all matters and think they are the rulers. The way they are painting all the politicians and whipping up the apathy of the people against them is indeed condemnable. Who will come forward to join the politics? will Bharka Dutt, Arnab Goswmi.rajdeep Sardesai and others will comeforward and join congress-sonia is waiting for them!
These TV reporeters should be asked to cover live the operations against terrorists in kashmir alongside the trops, for a change. I am sure they will chicken out., because , they know it is not the same thing like covering an operation against five star hotel from a safe distance like reality show.
There is a distint difference betwen news reporting and strategy exposing.Even in the corporate world, strategies are never exposed.
Media coverage on sensitive operations like these should be banned in all respect. It gives the terroist un due advantage and the forces are at greater risk. These nonsense news channels inorder to get cheap publicity
what about the sound of helicopter hovering over? wouldn't that have warned them ?And even without live coverage the india TV guys openly told them 'Imran commandos tumhe marne a rahe hain' and 'imran' said, 'haan pata hai' .. so I am not convinced at this kind of reasoning
This clearly indicates and contradicts what the ndtv reporter had said yesterday. She had written that no authority had asked them to stop the live telecast. But i feel even if no authority had asked to stop the live telecast with the country's interest in mind they should have stopped the live telecast on their own. Look what has happened. because of their fight of Exclusives we had lost one good NSG commando. Will the TV channels own up responsibility atleast now- since it is not only the navy chief now critisizing TV channels also other army men
Yes, The media is making lot of problem just to make some stories. Luck to escape is Mr Mukerjee by just walking away. Unluckey man is the 85years old Kerala CM.
Yes,TV media should learna and not the way they did it. It was an act for which the action should be taken even now.
The media is overplaying its role without considering security and social, religious sensitivities In Mumbai blasts, they have shown NSG personnel being lowered onto the attacked building form a helicopter, which is supposed to be a surprise attack on the terrorists. With their sat phones, they were ready for this front. Today, they are repeatedly showing filed clips of Babri Masjid demolition to rub on the wounds of Muslims. Similarly, they are hurting the sentiments and provoking people on issues of castes and regions. At this rate, if they do not show restraint voulanatirly, some censorship would be required to maintain peace and order.
This is a serious matter and media must exrecise self discipline. What the NSG is saying was obvious to us even as we all were the coverage. There is no point in media talking about right of citizen to know and media freedom and all that bull. People's security comes first and on that it is not media but the NSG which is the authority.
Media has defenitely been irresponsible. They have to be restrained when operations of this nature is on. It was virtually a 'nonstop nonsense' reporting even trivial things in around the affected areas. When are they going to behave. There has to be restriction. Only in our country in the name of freedom of speech this nonsense is tolerated. Enough is enough
