The National Security Guard is gathering all the visual footage that the electronic media has captured and newspaper and agencies had shot during the three days of the terror attack at the Taj, Oberoi (Trident) and Nariman House for training and archival purposes.

The elite blackcat commando force has recently approached national broadcaster Doordarshan for the same purpose. In addition, the NSG also plans to approach private television news channels for visual footage.

“All the video footage and the photographs that were clicked during the incident would then be sent to the NSG museum in Manesar at Gurgaon where the black cat commandos are based,” NSG sources said.

A large number of letters, appreciation cards and congratulatory messages, on display at the NSG headquarters at Mehram nagar near Palam now, will also be sent there to be stored in the museum of the force.

“This footage would be used as motivational resources by the force for its men. As the commandos are trained at Manesar, it would be appropriate for the memories and lessons learnt to be kept here,” said an NSG officer.

Footage collected by NSG personnel who were present during the Mumbai operation will also be added to the repository, the officer said.

A senior NSG officer said that the operation at the Jewish residential complex, Nariman House, where helicopter-borne commandos were lowered onto rooftops were captured from different angles by television news channels and the force hopes to collect them all.

While addressing his men in the new year, NSG Director-General J K Dutt described the Mumbai terror attack and the subsequent action of his commandos as a “soul-stirring happening” that “will reverberate in the corridors of time”.
