The third-ranked Djokovic struggled with his serve and unforced errors at the Terra Mitica amusement park as Spain clinched their 15th straight home tie.
In Porec, Croatia, the hosts clinched a 3-0 victory over Chile to advance to the quarter-finals after Mario Ancic and Marin Cilic beat Nicolas Massu and Paul Capdeville 6-3 6-3 3-6 6-4. Ancic and Cilic served 14 aces as Croatia reached their first quarter-final since 2006.
