Nahan, March 10 Mail staff at Head Post Office, Nahan, are facing a harrowing time as they are forced to do double duties to distribute post in two beats.

They are also not being paid anything extra for the double duties. Postmen say that against eight sanctioned posts, only five are filled and three are vacant for a long time.

They told Express News Service that they are deputed to distribute post in far-off villages, but no extra money or bus fare is paid to them. Moreover, if a postman goes on leave, no alternative arrangements are made.

Similar is the case with office staff as four posts of clerks are lying vacant. Posts of two packers are also lying vacant.

When contacted, a senior official in the department, on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that these problems existed.

He said the staff had complained to the higher authorities, but nothing had been done.
