Chandigarh, March 14 Advocate N K Nanda has been elected President of the Chandigarh District Bar Association for a record seventh time. Nanda is the first to have achieved this feat. He defeated his rival, Advocate A S Gujral, by a margin of 198 votes. Nanda bagged a total of 593 votes.

Arvind Sandhu was elected Vice-President, Advocate Harish Bansal was elected Secretary and Paramjit Rana was chosen Treasurer. Namita was elected Joint Secretary.

Not only local advocates, several from various districts of Punjab and Haryana also made it to the court to extend their support to the candidates.

Before afternoon, very few votes were cast but after 2 pm, voting gained momentum. It ended at 4.30 pm.

Though the excitement was the same, the votes cast this year were less than last year. Only 999 advocates cast their votes out of a total of 1,960 Bar members.

It was also the first time that the elections were held under the glare of the camera. The elections were telecast live on the screen installed on the court premises.
