Talwandi sabo, January 7 An exchange of heated arguments was witnessed today between Takht Damdama Sahib chief Balwant Singh Nandgarh and SGPC member from Rampura Phul Jagroop Singh Dhillon and his supporters.

Nandgarh had asked Dhillon to appear before the Takht today in connection with holding of an Akhand Path at a tomb (samaadh) in Ghanda Banna village, near Rampura, a few days back.

According to an Akal Takht directive (hukamnama), holding of an Akhand Path at a tomb is prohibited. As per information, Ek Noor Khalsa Fauj and Baba Budha Ji Granthi Sabha had made a complaint to the Takht chief against Dhillon, accusing him of violating the hukamnama, following which he was summoned.

Dhillon today arrived at the Takht along with three more SGPC members and more than 200 supporters, inviting the ire of Nandgarh, who took it as a "pressure tactic".

"Being an SGPC member, when he should have been ideally setting an example for others, Dhillon violated the hukamnama. And even as he had declared to come as a humble Sikh after he was summoned to the Takht, he came with three SGPC members and a large number of people to pressurise me," Nandgarh said, while talking to The Indian Express. "Following this, Dhillon will have to appear before the Akal Takht now," Nandgarh added.

"Instead of apologising for his act, he asked me why I did not summon Bibi Surinder Kaur Badal (wife of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal), who, according to him, was also involved in a similar Akhand Path organised at Aalike village some time back," Nandgarh said, adding that "even in that Akhand Path Dhillon was the administrator".

"I told him to give a complaint against the Bibi, like the one given against him, in writing and I will take action and summon her," said Nandgarh.

Dhillon, however, claimed that he was not involved in any verbal duel with the Nandgarh. "It were the villagers who locked horns with the Takht chief when not allowed to air their views," said Dhillon, adding that he did not use any tactic to pressurise Nandgarh.

"SGPC members and villagers had come on their own. In fact, it were the villagers who had organised Akhand Path at the tomb. I had just gone there," Dhillon said, adding that in the light of the hukamnama he had even managed to convince the villagers for the demolition of five tombs in the villages and demarcation of an old tomb to avoid any controversy.

Dhillon categorically denied having raised the issue of not summoning Surinder Kaur Badal for a similar act. "I did not say anything about her and respect the wife of the SAD chief," Dhillon said.
