Kolkata, October 23 Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today alleged that the state government had some evil plan as it was removing police camps from Nandigram, leaving the area vulnerable.

“Does the government want to commit another genocide there? Otherwise why would they remove the police camps? The situation there is still serious but the government sems to be indifferent to it.” said Mamata at her party headquarters at Topsia.

On late Monday evening, fresh clashes took place between CPI(M) supporters and Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee (BUPC) members. The incident took place at Kamalpur village near Khejuri area but nobody was reported injured, said Superintendent of Police, G A Srinivas.

The Trinamool Congress alleged that since the police camp at Kamalpur had been removed, the CPI(M) goons had entered the village and unleashed mayhem.

Police reinforcements have been sent to the area as a precautionary measure, said Superintendent of Police.

Nandigram has been in the news since January over intermittent clashes between CPI(M) supporters and Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee members over government's proposal to acquire land for setting up a chemical hub.

Although the state government has announced that it will not acquire the land in Nandigram or set up the chemical hub there, tension in the area is yet to subside.
