Kolkata, May 16 The controversial Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nandigram police station, Debasish Chakraborty, may get his transfer order but only after the results of the panchayat elections are announced. Sources in the district police confirmed that Chakraborty will be transferred back to West Midnapore in June.

SS Panda, Superintendent of Police, East Midnapore said that Chakraborty had been shifted to Nandigram police station from West Midnapore district for a period of six months. He had taken over the charge of Nandigram police in December and the six month period would expire by the end of May, this year.

Chakraborty, however, said that he had not received any order from the district headquarters till now. Raj Kanojia, IG (Law and Order) said that there was no such order to transfer Chakraborty from Nandigram police station.

While he was acting as the OC of Nandigram police station, Chakraborty was alleged to have a partisan role. The anti-Left parties had alleged on several occasions that he had deliberately harassed their supporters, including women. The leadership of Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee had alleged that he had allowed CPM cadres to enter Nandigram from Khejuri during the panchayat elections on May 11.
