Narayana murthy

Bangalore Within days of his appointment as International Advisor on Information Technology to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, IT czar N R Narayana Murthy on Wednesday quit from the post citing personal reasons.

In a letter to Rajapaksa, Murthy, chief mentor of Infosys Technologies, said he has decided to withdraw from being the advisor due to personal reasons but did not elaborate.

In his letter, details of which were made available to the media in Bangalore by Infosys, Murthy thanked Rajapaksa for the invitation to be the IT advisor and for the courtesy shown to him during his recent visit to Sri Lanka.

Last Saturday, Sri Lankan Foreign Secretary Palitha Kohona announced Murthy's appointment in Colombo and said he (Murthy) has accepted it.

Rajapaksa made the appointment after inviting Murthy as the chief guest to the ceremonial launch of '2009-Year of English and Information Technology' at the Presidential Secretariat in the Sri Lankan capital.

Speaking at that event, Rajapaksa said India's success in the field of IT in recent years has highly inspired Sri Lanka. "It is for this reason that we have turned to India in addition to other countries for technical support to strengthen our own endeavours," he said.

Hats off to Murthy by suresh john kennedy on 22 Feb 2009

Rajapaksa appointing Mr Murthy for the launch of 2009 year of ENGLISH and IT is ridiculous.. How can a country with no tolerance for the classical language of India appoint an Indian when he is carrying out ethnic cleansing in his backyard? The appointment of Murthy was for gaining DIRTY politica mileage by Rajapaksa. Mr Murthy you calling quits for personal reasons has made India proud. Mr Murthy you can be the president of India "Why be an adviser to a Joker"

Wise decision by Senthil on 21 Feb 2009

Good, rather a wise decision to dodge another controversy. Even if it was some other personal reason it did him good. You can't take a side when we don't have the clarity to judge. The wise thing here is making that a personal reason. We really don't know what is happening in Srilanka. We have varied set of claims. All these just tell one thing. There is a lot of innocent life casualties. And you know in a war no side is the good side. They fight to win at any cost. The one which wins can write history to become the good one. Until this war passes out, God be with those innocent people.

LTTE is terrorist by Sumit on 20 Feb 2009

Its not a good decision by Mr. Murthy. he is one of the most respectable person in IT Industry and thats the reason SL seek his help. nyway... is his personal decision n ever1 shud respect it.bt he shudnt have accepted the position on first place. n if his decision has nything to do with the war in SL then it is really regretable. Plight of Tamils in SL is detoriorating coz of SL Govt n LTTE both. LTTE is a terrorist organization n killer of Indian PM. so no 1 shud sopport it.

Without Murthy by najeeb on 20 Feb 2009

Mr Murthy's refusal is NO setback to Rajapakse. There are many other capable people willing to accept the job. The reason for Mr Murthy's refusal is unknown but I believe it should be the "tamil" issue. Anyway, we Sri Lankans are not concerned since we can manage without Murthy. Its pity that some comments mentioned in this issue is anti SL. But we know who brought and fed this "terrorist" problem to Sri Lanka.

Huh? by Akshay on 20 Feb 2009

Seeing that Narayana Murthy isn't Tamil, I don't see how that is a problem.

The wrong action by Saurabh Agarwal on 20 Feb 2009

I am the one who respect Mr. Murthy emmensly. But than this decision if his is something baffling. If Mr Murthy thinks that it wont be possible for him to devote time for the post, why the hell he has accepted that before. Cummon Mr Murthy, your actions are attached to Indias image and this type of decision degrade our image.

Know him to respect him by sureraja on 07 Sep 2009

Saurabh, you must have thought twice before writing that. If you truly respect him, you must know he will not work for or with a person who has indulged in a ghastly genocide. You must read and know more about the happenings. Understand the character of Shri.Narayana Murthy. Both are important.

Can the Govt. of India be inspired by Murthy too? by Anand Prakash Mishra on 19 Feb 2009

A very right step by Mr. Murthy. Better, if he would have stated the reason of his withdrawal to be the Sri Lankan Army's atrocities and killings of innocent Tamil civilians in the name of eliminating LTTE.Is the Govt. of India going to take some steps or build some diplomatic pressure to protect the minority Tamils who have always seen India as their own?

Stupid Move by Ashwini on 19 Feb 2009

Murthy must explain his decison..he cant simply silp away saying the matter was personal..Outside the area of IT, Murthy's stand and utterances have been an embarassment for India and Indians. His latest move - without proper explaination - will do him and Indians no good.

Stupid Move by Najeeb on 20 Feb 2009

Well said Ashwini and very correct.

Mr.Murthy by vijay on 19 Feb 2009
