"Narendra Modi is doing a good job. He is also a capable leader and we are very proud of him. Of course, he can be a candidate for the PM's post in the future after Advani. There is every possibility of him becoming Prime Minister. Whether he will become (PM) and how will be decided by the party," BJP spokesman Ravishankar Prasad told reporters in New Delhi.
Former Union minister and BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Arun Shourie also hinted in Ahmedabad that Modi could be BJP's prime ministerial candidate in the next general elections.
"Gujarat has the opportunity to elect PM this time and next time also you will have the opportunity to elect the PM from this state," he told reporters. Advani, the BJP's 81-year-old prime ministerial candidate, is contesting from Gandhinagar in Gujarat.
When asked whether he was referring to Modi in a future scenario and whether the chief minister was going to be a prime ministerial candidate in 2014 polls, Shourie said, "it could be."
Shourie however hastened to add that this was his "individual view".
The comments by Prasad and Shourie came weeks after eminent industrialists Sunil Bharti Mittal and Anil Ambani kicked up a storm when they openly rooted for Modi saying he should be the Prime Ministerial candidate of BJP.
The BJP stuck to its guns and said none other than Advani would be the BJP and NDA PM candidate while Modi himself stated publicly that he was not in the race and expressed his support to the former Deputy Prime Minister.

Yes, Narendra Modi should be the next PM. Did SIKH not suffer during Indria Gandhi assisnation why no one spoke about them at that time? whenever there is communical riot in Mumbai who is suffered the most? Hindus than? no one cries aloud? it is all politics dirty politics, to keep minority vote bank . Which ever religion we belong to one thing we need to remember no one is going to feed us and our children, no one is going to look after our family. Godhra was an illfated and unpleasent incident which was inflated by the burning of the train and later converted into a communical monster. But to be honest go and ask any non- hinuds and they will find Gujarat the best place to leave in India at the moment, ask them are they not becoming prosperous? are they not carrying out their daily activities peacefully? No religion is above the country, if you belive in religion, whatever it may be but it will preach martydom towards the country and India needs Modi badly.

I think you have not read the history of gujarat fully.. you have no idea of how many innocent people were killed when Congress and JD ruled the state. Sir there used to be riots almost every other month. Curfew in the city, not being able to go out a play as a kid.. but since BJP rule apart from Post-godhra there has not been a single incident of riots. People may have voted Modi the first time out of sentiment.. but not subsequently. He came to power again cos he has actually done a lot for the people of gujarat.. gujarat is prospering at present even in the recession. Hats of to Modi for that. This is the reason why the big industrialist are also rooting for him...
Whether they admit or not, every BJP party-worker knows that Narendra Modi is the most suitable candidate for the job. Had the top BJP leadership been generous enough to declare him their prime-ministerial candidate, there is no doubt, BJP could have swept the polls with heavy majority! And Narendra Modi could have formed an entirely BJP dominated Govt without the need for any sort of coalition!
When people like Mayawati, Sharad Pawar , Rahul Gandhi, Navin Patnaik can be projected as Prime Ministerial Candidates, then Mr. Narender Modi can be projected by BJP as their Prime Ministerial Candidate for 2014 without any regret. He has proved to be an able administrator without any corruption charges against him and the educated lot in India think that he has strong leadership qualities. We need to have a person who does what he thinks right and good for the country and we see all these qualities in Sri Narendar Modi. If Sonia or her family could have done 25% similar to what Narendra modi did in his state then I would oblige her.
