New Delhi Raising the pitch against countries that harbour terrorists, India on Monday said there should be zero tolerance to the scourge of terrorism and nations, which do not follow it should be made to "pay a heavy price" by the international community.

"Countries that do not follow zero tolerance to terrorism must be made to pay a heavy price by international community," External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee told a CII-sponsored 'Partnership Summit 2009' in New Delhi.

Seeking an international partnership to root out the menace of terrorism, Mukherjee said the global community should ensure that the states, which sponsored terror should be forced to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure.

"Countries that support or tolerate terrorism must have no choice but to dismantle terror infrastructure," he said.

However, he did not name any country that he may have had in mind while making these strong remarks against terror-sponsoring States.

Stating that Mumbai terror attacks had shocked the world, the Minister told the gathering of international diplomats, foreign dignitary and industry honchos that terrorism was one of the threats that affected all nations.

Mukherjee said India had long faced the scourge of terrorist activities and pointed out that there was a need for developing technologies in the global efforts to counter terrorism.

"However, adequate security to ensure such technologies do not fall in the wrong hands have to be provided," he said.

PAK ACTION AGAINST TERROR AN EYEWASH: INDIA

Terming Pakistan's action against terrorism as an "eyewash", India on Monday said the civilian government there was "not strong enough" to act against terror on its own.

"What they are doing right now is not enough. It looks like an eyewash. I think the civilian power centre in Pakistan is not strong enough to act on its own. We are not confident and happy over the steps taken so far," Union Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju told reporters during his visit to annual NCC Republic Day parade camp.

Raju did not agree that Pakistan was cracking under international pressure on India's demand for taking action against the perpetrators of the Mumbai attacks saying, "Unfortunately in Pakistan, there are multiple power centres to crack down and unfortunately the civilian government is not one of the more powerful centres."

He said the civilian government will have to convince other power centres to act against terrorists there.

"It (civilian government) has to act fast and convince other power structures to act against terror as both countries are suffering because of terrorism," Raju said.

He said if Pakistan did not do enough, India will have to take actions on its own.

On the action taken till now by the Government, Raju said, "As a responsible nation, we are building enough international pressure to force Pakistan to act otherwise we will have to take measures to defend ourselves."

Is he a FM or a chatter box. Talking everyday to press that Pakistan will be punished. One day it is “hot pursuit”, another day “all options”. Anther day he will say we are prepared for every action possible. Then another idiot will tell us “we are going to be pro-active”. After sitting at the footsteps of some Nehru family guys pressing their feet and obeying all orders for almost life time, whose words he is parroting. Or some expert dialog writer is with him to write all these garbage. Why don’t you just keep quiet for few days? Or are you paid for these barking? We know now that you are spineless and dishonest and only interest is to keep the kursi until death. Our nation will never get any self respect under you guys leadership.

Don't waste your energy by Omer Farooq on 20 Jan 2009

Whenever we think that things are normalizing he started giving statement which add fuel on fire. Nobody support the terror attacks which occurred on Mumbai. We even don't bother if Ajmal Kasab is hanged in India because no Pakistani support any gangster or criminal. It will be better if Mr. Mukherjee try to realize these things and stop wasting his energies to create hatred between the two neighbors. Please try to deliver peace and friendship to the region.

India is encircled by Tag on 20 Jan 2009

I read that Pak and SL just signed a defense agreement, encircling India. I can see that the Congress party and Sonia don't care for India. After Pakistan just orchestrated a massacre in Mumbai and the memories are still raw, she still lets Pakistan and Sri Lanka, two enemies of India to run the show in the Indian ocean. She is just obsessed with getting revenge against the Tamils who are the long term strategic buffer for India. In the long term the religion, culture is what binds two communities together against those who are threatening those values. India's enemies are rejoicing at Sonia/Congress ruining our future.

War aint an option by Jo on 20 Jan 2009

Its not about being cowards...We are dealing with a nation which is a failed state and in absolute state of arrears...How is war going to help..People who shout war should also think of the outcomes they expect from war and if they are feasible...We dont want to invade that junk..It wont matter much to them if they are bombed because there is nothing worthwhile there...Its a nucleur, irresponsible and reckless nation...There should be international pressure to disarm it...Yes ..if there is a strong evidence of state being involved in the attack..then a stringent action should be taken...India would have to do this on its own...Dont expect anything from international community...They are not going to bust the terrorists for us...

"Political Parties refusing to act for Indians must be kicked out" Indians by Jatin Patel on 20 Jan 2009

Dear Editor,Indians came out and said it loud 'take the war to pakistani army'. The politicians are not listening and providing this lip service till next general elections as a timepass policy.Such parties must be kicked out of power, be it Congress, BJP or anti-national communists. The senseless policy of congress talks about trivial things and media analyzes the trivia!! Stop it Sir and start holding this inaction packed politicians responsible to what Indians want. If India were a meaningful democracy, by now a war with pakistani army should have came to end for Indians, not only for mumbai blasts, but for blasts after blasts and for occupying kashmir for six decades. This lip service in front of media must be confronted by media on behalf of people. What else besides finger pointing is this timepass policy going to entail? PM advocates hope as strategy and Godmother is making all these people dance to her strings. Ask right questions to these political lip service barkers, Sir.

Nations supporting terror must pay a heavy price: India by Sunny P on 19 Jan 2009

Pakistan has better PR than we do.. They are succeeding in diverting world attention to a point where US, UK and Allies have turned very passive. They are very slick in their maneuvering and charm offensive.. We sadly lack that. The world attention has now moved on to Gaza and Obama's innauguration. Unfortunately we were in such a strong position and we have lost it by not managing the PR a lot more professionally instead of saying the same thing day in and day out like a broken record. With all due respect, this matter was beyond Pranab or Manmohan. We needed a heavyweight to fight our corner.

I don't understand this attack on Pranab by Indian on 19 Jan 2009

I don't understand this attack on Pranab for saying "world should not tolerate terrorism", but the government itself supporting muslim terrorism, (like supporting Afzal for his parliamentary attack), etc. It is not his government. It is the Congress and communists government (though for a short while now, communists are out of it).. and Lalu, and DMK, and Sonia. They are the ones who have decided to support muslim terrorists for votes. If anything, attack them (that would include attack on Pranab; but, even if Congress appoints a younger person tomorrow in place of Pranab, that young person will again talk nicely, but take no action.. with all these muslim vote considerations). So, let us be clear, the only solution is vote out Congress/ communists/ Lalu / DMK/ etc. There is no other way to save Mother India from terrorism.

cooperate instead of fighting each other. by Nautankee on 19 Jan 2009

Pakistan has to show that it is willing to stop terrorisn, however,India and Pakistan does not need a war, but friendship to fight terrorism of all kind.Pakistan should wipe out all terrorist and their camps and India should ban Bajrang dal, VHP etc. all the leaders of such organisations should be brought to justice at the Haig.

cowards by Ashish on 19 Jan 2009

THE WAR by MYDAKSHA.COM on 19 Jan 2009

THE COUNTRY DOES NOT GO TO WAR JUST BECAUSE PEOPLE SHOUT WAR, COUNTRY DOES NOT GO TO WAR BASED ON WHETHER THE PRIMEMINISTER IS COWARD OR BRAVE, COUNTRY DOES NOT GO TO THE IF EVIDENCE POINTS AT TWO DIFFERENT DIRECTION.--------KASAB WAS PAKISTANI AND MUSLIM AND GUILTY BECAUSE OF HIS AGE, BUT THE ORGANISE OF THIS ATTACK MAY NOT BE PAKISTANI AND MUSLIM.
