Jaipur, February 13: Former External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh, who had to resign from the government in the wake of the Iraqi food-for-oil scam, on Wednesday announced his resignation from Congress but parried questions whether he planned to join the BJP.

He made the announcement in the presence of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia at a BJP-sponsored Jat rally in Vidyadhar Nagar, 20 km from Jaipur, and soon after launched a blistering attack on Sonia Gandhi.

“Wait and see” was all that he would reply to questions on whether he would join the BJP or whether he expects to get a BJP seat to Parliament as his term in Rajya Sabha is coming to an end shortly.

Singh, suspended from the party and facing a petition for his disqualification from Rajya Sabha, quit the Manmohan Singh after the Volcker Committee findings in the UN oil-for-food scam in which he and his son were was named as beneficiaries.

The Pathak Inquiry Authority, set up to go into the findings, found that he had used his position to get oil contracts from the Saddam Hussein regime for his son’s friend Andaleeb Sehgal. However, the Authority said Singh did not personally benefit from the deal.

A few months later he was suspended from the party while his son Jagat Singh, an MLA in Rajasthan, was expelled. His case is being dealt with by the Congress disciplinary action committee.

A disloyal remains disloyal evry where by P.P. TALWAR on 14 Feb 2008

Shame! Natwar singh a disgraced politician who being chucked out from the congress party which had nourished him for so many years, bestowing on him the coveted portfolio of Minister for External Affairs is by showing his disloylity and betrayal is now casting aspersions on congress President Sonia Gandhi. If Natwar Singh is not loyal to congress Party which did so much for him, he can not be loyal to any other political party.

Very very worrying... by withheld on 14 Feb 2008

BJP may be better off with an upright citizen of any creed rather than a 'reportedly' rotten erstwhile congressman. But politics is what it is practised today, there may not be any thing for principles.

The Sucker is not Worth by Y Singh on 14 Feb 2008

BJP is a value based party. It's not worth accepting a kickbacker like Natwar.

Man, I appreciate you for the site you mentioned. I knew only half of the story. Extremely interesting. It needs focus. A total Khichdi Pariwar. Now I feel pity for the noted and so knowledgeable and internationally respected economist like Dr Singh whom he reports to. I'd rather resign to value my dignity. I missed that part where Natwar exposed Ms Maino and the mafia Antonio. Kindly post the site. Thanks much.
