Nagpur The Indian Navy was fully geared up to meet any eventuality in the wake of the 26/11 terror attack, a naval officer has said.

Like the Indian Army and Air Force, the Navy was also prepard to carry out orders from the governnent, Rear Admiral Kishore Thakre from the Naval Headquarters told reporters in Nagpur on Sunday.

Thakre, when asked about escalation of tension across the border, said, "We are prepared for any given situation," He said India was in the process of manfacturing its first aircraft carrier ship at the Cochin Ship Yard to overcome the shortage in the existing fleet.

This will be first indigenous aircraft carrier ship in the country, he said.

To a question over the possibility of a conspiracy involving keeping the Indian Navy engaged in fighting Somali pirates while terrorists sneaked into Mumbai for the November 26 attack, the Rear Admiral said this angle had not been looked into.

Navy fully prepared by Varghese Joseph on 06 Jan 2009

Shame, when Indian Navy had the real duty in their hand they failed. Why, now have they commented after nearly two months after Mumbai attacks? What is their duty? Very sad. Shame on Indian Navy.

Indian Navy by Rajesh Vyas on 05 Jan 2009

The statement of the Big Shot from Indian Navy is a cruel joke on the common people of India. Where was the Indian Navy, the Coast Guard, The Customs surveillance when 10 terrorists allegedly came all the way from Karachi in s fishing boat, got of at the Mumbai Fishing colony and unleashed mayhem not witnessed ever before. All the talk of the bravado by this admiral sound very hollow and without any substance in light of this mayhem, Let us stop singing glory to ourselves. Enough is Indeed Enough.

"Navy prepared to meet any eventuality by SS on 05 Jan 2009

I am a proud Indian but keeping in mind the two glaring lapses resulting in Kargil war and Navy's intelligence failureresulting in Mumbai's massacre, these statements appear to be from a Coward Rear Admiral who believes in self praise surrounded by the sycophants.

LET US NOT DEMORLIZE OUR ADMIRALS by JOICEE VERGHESE on 05 Jan 2009

Let us not demoralze our Admirals. It is our Politicians who keep them under their disposal and tied up their hands behind without letting them to discharge their responsibility at lease.

Navy's prepareness to meet any battle in the seas. by john jacobs on 04 Jan 2009

Just like the politician the men in uniform too have become deliberately evasive or muddled in their thinking. Explaining the Navy's preparedness to meet any eventuality, Admiral Kishore says an aircraft carrier is being built in the Cochin ship yard to overcome the carrier shortage of the navy, very much like as if the Admiral does not expect a battle in the next ten to fifteen years; roughly the gestation period of a large ship of the size of an aircraft carrier. So much for readiness. May be the navy is still in want of suitable intelligence access channels for the Admiral to be updated with the latest goings on.

ADMIRAL'S STATEMENT by JOICEE VERGHESE on 05 Jan 2009

Mr. John Jacob, Whatelse you expect an Admiral to say ? I think you expect political statements from Admiral Kishore, if so you are absolutely wrong. Unfortunately, we in India we have the system of Obeying the Defence Minister, even if at all he knows the equivalent ranks of our three wings of the Armed forces. Admiral will talk only his service matters., not statements and such.. You are in fact trying to tarnish the Admiral.

Admiral's statement by roz on 07 Jan 2009

All suppose the admiral had said "to do my job, i need minimum 4 fleets" What would you all say ? If i was the admiral, here is my case: In 1930's when the global economy was bad, yet a small island country which had little contact with outside society had atleast 6-7 aircraft-carriers! We have one sick aircraft carrier which can carry only 18 planes! for God sake only 18 planes and we are proud of 1 sick air-craft carrier ? We have only half the number of submarines required i.e. we have less 15 submarines, out of which 6-7 are very old technology and most of the time in repairs. When i say old, i mean the noisy submarines that are really slow. The enenmy can easily detect the noise and beat it in speed. What else do you expect the Admiral to say ? If we the people have the guts, then we would pressure the govt of who cares which party to invest in the military and get over the Bofors phobia ! The Bofors phobia has crippled our military inventory.

Navy prepared to meet any eventuality by Mathew on 04 Jan 2009
