Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party (PPP) won the most seats in a Feb. 18 General Election but not enough to rule alone. Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), or PML (N), party came second and while it has vowed to support the PPP, Sharif had not previously confirmed his party would join the PPP in forming a government.
"It was also agreed that the PML (N) shall be part of the federal cabinet," Sharif told a news conference after talks with Bhutto's widower, Asif Ali Zardari, who took over as PPP leader after she was assassinated on Dec. 27.

Let us hope that the arragement arrived at between the PPP and the PML (N) will last for full term of the present National Assembly of Pakistan. There are formidable challenges ahead and they require sagacious and selfless leadership dedicated to the welfare of the people of Pakistan to overcome them. If the present arrangement falls apart for lack of mutual accommodation on vital issues, Pakistan will be thrown into the throes of chaos once again.
