Naxal attack: 7 cops killed in blast in Chattisgarh

Raipur Seven policemen were killed on Tuesday and two others injured in a landmine blast triggered by Naxalites in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, police said.

The blast, that took place near Mardapal and Kondagaon areas of the district, blew up a bridge killing seven policemen and injuring, A N Upadhya, Inspector General (Bastar), said.

Naxalites triggered the blast when the securitymen were returning from election duty at polling booths in Tumdibala, Kudhur and Nahakanar in Narayanpur assembly constituency where re-polling was held yesterday, Upadhyay said.

The Naxalites had also triggered a landmine blast near Bintaghati in Bastar district on Monday in which a security personnel was killed and another injured as 33 polling booths went for re-polling under Bastar division on Monday.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh termed the incident as an act of cowardice by Naxalites.
