New Delhi, June 23: Amid reports that Samajwadi Party would consider supporting the nuclear deal, the CPI(M) on Monday subtly cautioned SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav that his party might lose the support of Muslims if it decides to go with the UPA on the issue.

CPI(M) Politburo member M K Pandhe asked Yadav to ‘think twice’ before deciding to support the nuclear deal as overwhelming number of Muslims, his party's perceived votebank, were against the agreement.

He said the SP chief, who enjoys a good relationship with the Left parties, will have to give a lot of explanation if he decides to support the deal, one which he has opposed earlier.

"Mulayam will have to think twice before supporting the deal as an overwhelming majority of Muslims are not in favour of the deal. Mulayam's support is much more among Muslim masses," he told reporters in New Delhi.

He was responding to a question about speculation that the Uttar Pradesh-based party was cosying up to Congress to support the deal, which was strongly opposed by the Left.

Noting that such reports were ‘no doubt’ a serious development, Pandhe said, "He will have to explain it to people how suddenly he has become a supporter of the deal. He has been very strongly opposing the deal."

The role of the 39-member strong party in Lok Sabha could be crucial in a trial of strength if Left allies withdraw support to the deal.

Mulayam said in Lucknow that a decision on supporting the deal would be taken only after consulting leaders of UNPA allies.

Indo-US nuclear deal by Haseeb on 02 Jul 2008

As a keen follower of the 123 India-US nuclear deal from two years (since July18, 2006 Agreement), I can firmly say that this nuclear deal is of immense importance for the energy security of India. I simply cannot comprehend any opposition to this once in a while opportunity. What has happened to the sense of politicians (like LEFT, BJP, BSP)? Looking at strict international nuclear regime (i.e. NPT, NSG, IAEA etc), the concession, which India will get through this deal, is simply unbelievable. Moreover, to justify their opposition, they use Muslim opposition to this deal.Majority of Muslims don’t know about deal and if they are educated about the benefits of deal, then they will never oppose the deal. As a practicing Indian Muslim I strongly oppose and condemn the use of Muslim Community. If this deal fails, future generations will never forgive these wicked politicians (who are now acting like foolish crying wolves) for depriving them from an important source of energy

cpm's true color by mahendra kothari on 26 Jun 2008

The CPM has shown their true colours by warning SP of loosing muslim votes if they support 123 us deal, they (CPM) pretend to be secular, where as they are true muslim parast and trying their hard to appease them

POWER by ashish vyas on 25 Jun 2008

The Truth by Purushottam Jha on 25 Jun 2008

The truth has really come out. They (every parties including lefts) think only in terms of votes and than sugarquote it with some socalled national interest. No astrologer is needed to forcast UPA losing the next general elections. They have all along been playing friendly matches among themselves. Perhaps they do not have the time to ponder over national interest or people welfare issues. N deal, despite pros

RED Mascot of Secularism turns GREEN

Fearing muslims by prakash on 24 Jun 2008

It seems all so called secular parties afraid of the muslim votes are indirectly consolidating hindu votes in favour of BJP/Shivsena.Gone are the days when hindus votes are polarised on the name of cast and panth.Justified actions without favour and fear will only prevail in future. So be justified and leave the old style of politics to survive otherwise dont educate the masses

Muslims against n-deal by Anant on 24 Jun 2008

Can India ever do anything without bringing religion into it? What a nasty statement from SP?How would muslims, hindus or any other religion would know about n-deal? Even the so called leaders of the tin pot parties can even spell N-Deal let alone to understand what it means for India. One wonders how India carries on existing with so level of thinking by its leadership. India must now start to use educated people for leading political parties and certainly no MLA or politician should be chosen unless they have a degree and understand the religions of the world. Any political party using religion as a political issue should be banned. There should be no state parties only but all parties must contest seats nationally. How much people in Punjab know about SP,commies or Shiv Sena and how many people in Mumbai know Akali Dal? Such limited parties should not be allowed unless they are part of a national political party. What a mess India is in??

N-Deal by Jivan on 25 Jun 2008

If anything is associated with U.S.,for muslims

If muslims oppose it, if commies oppose it, it can be nothing but good by Somu Nath Speaker on 24 Jun 2008

Anything opposed by muslims and commies is bound to be good for India. Here it is the axis of both the evils, so there is no doubt in any thinking Indian's mind that N deal should happen.

Enemies of nation by Vishal on 24 Jun 2008

I think parties like Commies and SP are against India. Commies are against India. Commies are agents of China. High time Congress and BJP realize this and come together to save the nation. All regional parties are interested for thier state only hence should not have major influence in things like foreign policy.

CPM warns SP! by nyayman on 24 Jun 2008

Now the intention of CPM in opposing the nuclear deal has become apparent. In Nandigram the Muslims were the targets.CPM utilized Muslims to drive Tasleema Nasreen from Kolkatta. Now the CPM warns that Muslims will not support SP if it supports nuclear deal! Muslims have always been first to support all causes dear to India and its integrity and unity. They never had, neither have, nor will have "extra territorial loyalties"! They do not look to any one to speak for themselves. They would like to appeal to the esteemed leaders of SP to save the deal and the posterity.

N-deal and M-factor by Naveed on 24 Jun 2008

Ridiculous, just ridiculous. What a common man (for that matter a muslim) needs is a decent life to live. How many muslims know about the N-deal?, if atall they know, how's that going to help them to earn their livelyhood? It's all politics to defame muslims. The left parties know that by dragging muslims into this matter, there would be debate. N-deal or no deal, a common muslim is nothing to do with that as long as he gets 2 decent meals a day.

BJP by Dr Narayan Singh Rao on 24 Jun 2008

In order to protect the dignity of the office of thePrime Minister and cradiblity of The Govt of India The BJP and Congress Party Must come together and clear the way for passage of Nuclear Deal in the National Interests.Keep in mind China is in attacking mode and instead of fighting Unite and neutralise the anti India Left Parties. The stand of our Prime Minister must be supported by BJP.

Muslim Vote by rajmohan k on 24 Jun 2008

What a shameful confession by the anti-national communists? Who is now 'secular'? Once again these commies and SP are proving themseleves to be pseudo-secularists, in others true 'communals'! While always playing the communal cards, the communists and SP have accused BJP as communal! It is high time that we should throw these communists first out of the country, and corner mulla mulayam and teach a lesson.

Communists are Anti-Nationals by Ajay, Pune on 24 Jun 2008

When such leadership (CPM, Laloos and others) is available to India, why does the country need any enemies? These rascal communists need to be put into the Nuclear Reactors. They are the true Anti-Nationals. they should be put into the Nuclear Reactors.....

Muslim Vote Bank by Sanjay Chaturvedi on 24 Jun 2008

I do not understand why there is hue and cry about Signing N-deal.What role will Muslims or any religion have to play.I think Our politicains are like Speed Brakers towards any national cause to keep alive there political ambitions.I still trying to understand the CPM's statment that Mulayam has to answer Muslim Voter.I think the India lacks political will to take bold decisions and our politicians making it even more worse.

Power hungry part 3 (corrected) by Parth on 24 Jun 2008

(... sorry guys for posting part 3 third time, I had to remove an ampersand sign in Research and Development where the text was getting cut-off ...) Sonia’s anti-India stance is further evident in not uplifting the backward on economic criteria, cutting down on budgets of Research and Development of Atomic Energy Research, not taking any action against Christian missionaries engaged in proselytizing. Her actions speak of anti-Indian activities on the economic, development, scientific and cultural fronts. She is silently working in disguise on major policy decisions through her front men executing it. She couldn’t have found a more naďve representative always bowing down in servitude to her.

Muslims and nuclear deal by Naim Naqvi on 24 Jun 2008

CPM and rest of fly-by-night parties are playing their guessing games. Muslims do not think in terms of communal lines. Individual opinions may differ but there have never been any consensus among them about India's signing of nuclear deal. Most of them are too busy in looking for their next evening meal. BJP plays the card of minority appeasement rather widow's mite and rest even can't peep into the muslim mind. Take away all your useless favors. They really mean nothing. Muslims are holding their cards to their chest. They will make the right decision at the right time. They are mentally strong, smart and far too sensible to open up. Your website has every right to publish or reject any message. However, your fundamental poicy seems to be something as follows:You will publish an article exposing the real picture of the communal forces in India. However, when the rebuttals start pouring in you delete amost every comment that goes against these communal forces. We are just watching
