New V-C vows to make HPU a world-class varsity

Shimla, April 8 The new Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh University Professor Sunil Kumar Gupta, who succeeds Dr Anil Wilson, is the first one of the league who has studied and taught in the university before heading it.

Elated over his appointment, that was notified by Governor V.S. Kokje, Dr Gupta vowed to make HP University into an institution of international repute.

Dr Sunil Kumar Gupta is the chairperson of commerce department of Himachal Pradesh University and would replace Dr Anil Wilson who had resigned last month from the post. Wilson holds the charge till April 10.

“I would keep in view the best interests of students, teachers and non-teaching employees before taking any major decisions,” said Gupta in an informal meeting with mediapersons. Though he refused to comment on the irregularities that had surfaced in the university during the past many years, Gupta said, “I will talk about it after I take over charge.”

Dr Gupta has a teaching experience of 28 years, has published six books, 19 research projects and 17 research publications. Gupta has been an active member of the Himachal Pradesh University Teachers’ body and BJP teachers’ cell. He headed the Himachal Pradesh University Teachers’ Association during 1999 to 2001 and later remained secretary of Himachal Pradesh University Teachers’ Welfare Association.
